2024 Projections
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Johnson was selected in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the Giants out of Penn State. Darren Waller’s mulling retirement, and if the starting tight end decides to hang up his cleats, the majority of snaps at the position would likely go to a combination of Johnson and 2022 fourth-round draft pick Daniel Bellinger. Johnson didn’t post more than 341 yards in any college season, but he used his 6-foot-6, 259-pound frame effectively in the red zone, scoring seven touchdowns in 2023. His 4.57-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine was impressive for a player of his size, so Johnson has the physical tools to contribute as a pass catcher all over the field at the NFL level. Johnson may need some time to reach his full potential, though, especially if Waller sticks around in 2024. Read Past Outlooks
Needed tight end depth for NYG
The Giants selected Johnson in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 107th overall.
ANALYSIS
With Darren Waller's status for the upcoming season up in the air, targeting tight end made sense for the Giants. Johnson is one of the most athletic tight end prospects in this class with 4.57 speed on a 6-foot-6, 259-pound frame. His combine workout firmly put him in the top five at the position. However, when scouts see those types of workout numbers, they wonder why the on-field production wasn't better. Johnson topped out at 34 catches for 341 yards as a senior, though seven of those catches went for touchdowns. His YPT mark lagged behind, though, checking in at 6.4 in 2023. If Johnson can maximize his tools, he can be an asset in the Giants passing game. If Waller does retire this offseason, Johnson should be on the fantasy radar. However, fantasy managers shouldn't forget the presence of 2022 fourth-rounder Daniel Bellinger as a contender for the starting role.

Insurance for Waller retirement
The Giants took Johnson in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 107th overall, to help fill the void at tight end should Darren Waller opt to retire, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
With Waller's status for 2024 still in the air, the Giants added to their tight end room by taking Johnson in the draft. Johnson caught 34 passes for 341 yards and seven touchdowns in his final season at Penn State, and he was the fifth tight end selected in this year's draft. He brings plenty of athleticism to the Giants' pass-catching game with his 6-foot-6, 259-pound frame and 4.57-second 40-yard dash speed, and Johnson will be a big target in the red zone for quarterback Daniel Jones.
