2024 Fantasy Outlook
Mostert can't keep this up forever with age 32 arriving in April, but if anything the former Boilermaker and 49er appeared spry in 2023. Mostert's trademark explosiveness seemed fully intact as he blasted his way to 1,012 yards and an absurd 18 touchdowns on just 209 carries, though the fact that he dealt with knee and ankle troubles later in the year served as another reminder that Mostert is not physically built to handle the usage burden of a workhorse running back. It might be easier for Mostert to stay healthy for 17 games if he saw something more like 180 carries instead of 209, and at the very least the Dolphins would ideally get to the playoffs before risking overworking Mostert. The emergence of fellow burner back De'Von Achane gives the Dolphins a clear way to manage Mostert's workload, hopefully getting the best of both his explosiveness and longevity by giving him rest when he needs it. Mostert's carry limitations might make it impossible to win the league rushing title, but he already showed in 2023 that he can do major damage even on a modest workload, especially in the touchdown category. Reworks deal with Miami
The Dolphins and Mostert agreed to terms Friday on a reworked deal that includes an extension through the 2025 season, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Mostert's new deal with the Dolphins is worth up to $9.1 million over two years. The running back, who turns 32 years old next month, is coming off a 2023 campaign in which he ran for 1,012 yards on 209 carries in 15 regular-season games, while combining for 21 touchdowns (18 rushing and three receiving). During the upcoming season, Mostert is set to reprise his key role in a Miami backfield that also includes dynamic 2023 third-round pick De'Von Achane, as well as Jeff Wilson, Salvon Ahmed and Chris Brooks.

Gets extra year on deal
Mostert restructured his contract with the Dolphins on Friday and is now signed through 2025, Marcel Louis-Jacques and Adam Schefter of ESPN report.
ANALYSIS
Mostert's restructured deal is worth $9.075 million according to Schefter and comes in the wake of the veteran running back's career-best 2023 season. Mostert rushed for a career-high 1,012 yards and posted a franchise-record 18 rushing touchdowns among 21 total touchdowns across 15 games last season, and he's once again slated to split carries with speedy second-year back De'Von Achane in 2024.

It's unclear whether Mostert will ever hold up to a substantial workload -- he hasn't played a full season since 2019 -- but his skill set is a perfect fit with coach Mike McDaniel's scheme, just as it was under Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco when McDaniel was first the run game coordinator and then offensive coordinator. McDaniel quickly committed to Mostert as Miami's lead back last season, even after the front office signed Chase Edmonds to a bigger contract in free agency. McDaniel discarded Edmonds after three weeks, from which point Mostert ran away with the starting role. Miami's pass-heavy offense didn't work Mostert too heavily -- his season high in carries was just 18, and he got single-digits seven times -- but Mostert's 4.9 YPC partially offset that. The question for this season is the workload split between Mostert, Jeff Wilson and rookie third-round pick Devon Achane. Each offers something a little different, and none projects as a true workhorse, but Mostert's strong 2022 and prior history with McDaniel give reason to consider him the 1A.
