Third at Daytona
Camping World Truck
February 16, 2018
Nemechek finished third in the NextEra Energy Resources 250 Camping World Truck Series race at Daytona International Speedway Friday night.
ANALYSIS
It was like a blast from the past as the 54-year-old veteran raced among the leaders all night, and worked well with his son, John-Hunter. Nemechek didn't lead any laps, but he maintained a position inside the Top 10 most of the evening at Daytona. When the laps wound down and it became crunch time, he would pilot the No. 87 Chevy Silverado to the outside lane and challenge for the win. However, that late rally would fall short, and Nemechek would collect his best truck series finish since the 2017 Daytona race when he finished fifth.

The 58-year-old veteran didn't make any starts last season. His 2022 plans are not known at this time.
Made just 8 starts last season in Mike Harmon Racing's No. 47 entry. Nemechek earned a pair of Top-20 finishes in those efforts, but was inconsistent otherwise. This veteran driver's 2021 schedule has yet to be announced, and it remains to be seen if the 57-year-old driver will compete in the Xfinity Series this season.
Races part-time across all three upper divisions of NASCAR, with most of his efforts coming in the Truck Series.
Nemechek is a free agent driver in 2016.
The owner/driver of the No. 87 Toyota will return for a 21st season of Sprint Cup Series racing in 2013. Nemechek made 31 of the 36 events last season, but only competed as a start-and-park team. The veteran has failed to post a Top-10 finish in his last five seasons of Cup racing, so the prospects for improvement are quite small. Nemechek is steadily nearing 50 years of age, so his days of ultra-competitive racing may be over. Unless the sponsorship situation changes drastically he will be reduced to start-and-parking once again this season.
Nemechek has finished 25th, 19th, and 16th in the points in the last three seasons. The improvement has slowed, and he may have reached the ceiling for this MB2 Motorsports team. Nemechek should be a 15-20th place team again in 2006.
