Routed by Daniel Rodriguez
WelterweightOther
April 10, 2021
Perry lost to Daniel Rodriguez via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 26-30) at UFC on ABC 2 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Perry's free fall continues. He has now lost four of his past six dating back to November 2018. This fight was like so many of the others we have seen from "Platinum" over the years. While his toughness is always on full display, Perry is unable to properly defend himself on the feet and doesn't possesses the secondary offensive skills to do anything other than try to knock his opponent's head off with strikes. It's safe to say this is what Perry is at this point. There is no strategic change forthcoming, and it remains to be seen how much value the company feels he provides them moving forward. Perry is clearly trending in the wrong direction.
Set to face Daniel Rodriguez
WelterweightOther
February 16, 2021
Perry will square off against Daniel Rodriguez on the UFC's April 10 card, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
ANALYSIS
Perry is looking to get back into the win column after a subpar showing against Tim Means in November despite Perry missing weight for the fight. Perry has lost three of his last four bouts and gets the chance to get back on track versus Rodriguez, who is also looking for redemption following his first career UFC loss at the hands of Nicolas Dalby. Perry surrenders three inches of both height and reach to his opponent, so he'll need to work inside while fending off takedown attempts from his opponent.
Loses after missing weight
WelterweightOther
November 21, 2020
Perry lost to Tim Means via unanimous decision (27-30, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC 255 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It's been a rough past 36 hours for Perry. First, he missed weight by 4.5 pounds on Friday morning and had to forfeit 30 percent of his purse to Means in order for the fight to proceed. Then, he went out and dropped the decision. The 30-27 score in favor of Means is a poor one but the correct man one this fight. Perry's most effective moments came in Round 1 and they surprisingly came on the mat. Perry scored a takedown and had a deep choke clamped on before Means managed to escape. The rest of the fight was a back-and-forth brawl on the feet in which Means was content landing jabs and Perry went for power shots. It's fair to wonder how seriously Perry is taking fighting these days. Not only did he miss weight, but he was cornered by his pregnant girlfriend and a buddy, neither of whom have any experience in the fight game. Perry is a polarizing figure in the world of mixed martial arts and nothing that happened this week will change that.
Misses weight at UFC 255
WelterweightOther
November 20, 2020
Perry missed weight ahead of Saturday's welterweight fight against Tim Means, but the fight will go on as scheduled, Brett Okamoto of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Perry weighed in at 175.5 pounds, which is 4.5 pounds over the welterweight non-title limit. The fight will take place agains as scheduled, but Perry will forfeit 30 percent of his purse. Perry will be taking on a fighter that has a four-inch advantage on him in both height and reach.
Now facing Tim Means
WelterweightOther
November 2, 2020
Perry will take on Tim Means in a welterweight matchup at UFC 255 on Nov. 21, Ariel Helwani of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Means steps in to replace Robbie Lawler, who withdrew for undisclosed reasons. Means has alternated wins and losses over his last six fights, most recently earning a unanimous decision victory over Laureano Staropoli in August. Means will enter this matchup with approximately four-inch advantages in both height and reach. Expect this to be a high-volume striking affair, as Means lands 4.92 significant strikes per minute, while Perry -- who is more than willing to get hit in order to land his own -- absorbs 4.41.
