Not competitive once again

Smith lost to Makhmud Muradov via KO (punch) at 4:09 of Round 3 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Washington D.C.
ANALYSIS
Smith entered as the biggest underdog on the card (+400) and the Vegas odds proved to be well founded. Hopelessly outclassed against an opponent nearly a decade his junior, Smith was well on his way to dropping a unanimous decision before he was finished. A pro for more than a decade, the soon-to-be 39-year-old Smith is clearly nearing the end of the line. He has lost three fights in a row and has just one victory dating back to August 2016.

Facing Menifield at UFC Washington
MiddleweightUFC
September 25, 2019
Smith will now go up against Alonzo Menifield in a light heavyweight bout at UFC Fight Night in Washington, D.C. on Dec. 7, Gene Wang of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith was originally scheduled to square off against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC Sao Paulo on Nov. 16, but after Nogueira was forced to withdraw with a back injury, Smith's fight was moved to a different event with a different opponent. Smith will certainly have his hands full against the undefeated Menifield, who has won each of his first two fights this year since signing with the UFC and has gotten eight of his nine victories via KO or TKO.

Falls to superior striker
MiddleweightUFC
December 15, 2018
Smith lost to Zak Cummings via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC on Fox 31 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Smith generally prefers to make a fight ugly in the clinch but perhaps due to the grappling credentials of his opponent, opted to stand and strike for most of the fight. "Hot Sauce" was able to land his share of counter shots in the exchanges but simply didn't have the fluidity and crispness of Cummings on the feet. Smith can be tough to deal with when he is grinding on opponents but it's unlikely that he will be winning many kickboxing-heavy fights in the future. Smith falls to 15-9 in professional MMA as a result of the loss.
Drops unanimous decision in opening bout of UFC Fight Night from England
MiddleweightUFC
May 27, 2018
Smith was defeated by Elias Theodorou via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Sunday in Liverpool.
ANALYSIS
This fight played into Smith's hands. He expected Theodorou to try to keep his distance and use counter-striking, but "The Spartan" was willing to play Smith's game and engage in the clinch. Surprisingly, Smith was unable to get may takedowns, and when he was successful the Canadian was able to quickly get back to his feet. Smith was also out-struck in the clinch as Theodorou continuously found a home for an uppercut from the clinch. Smith seemed to be wearing down Theodorou in the second round, but then the wrestler started to tire himself. Both fighters showed great heart, but "The Spartan" had the advantage in almost every clinch exchange with "Hot Sauce." Smith was unable to impose his will with takedowns and top pressure which led to his unanimous decision loss.
Booked for UFC Liverpool
MiddleweightUFC
March 21, 2018
Smith (undisclosed) will take on Elias Theodorou in a middleweight matchup at UFC Liverpool on May 27.
ANALYSIS
A veteran of the sport since the Strikeforce days, Smith is 3-1 in his last three UFC bouts. At 37 years old, his window for a deep run may be closing, but a win over the younger Theodorou could help make a case for a spot near the bottom of the rankings. The problem with this matchup for Smith is that he tends to lean on his grappling, and Theodorou has yet to be submitted in 16 professional fights. Theodorou hasn't displayed a ton of knockout power of late, however, so Smith should at least be able to hang around. The two fighters combined have went to the judges in their past nine fights, so don't count on a big stoppage bonus when setting your lineups.
