Loses via TKO in thrilling two round war
Mendes was defeated by Alexander Volkanovski via TKO (punches) at 4:14 of Round 2 at UFC 232 on Saturday in Los Angeles.
ANALYSIS
Mendes was impressive in this loss. It was a clash of styles as Volkanovski was the more technical fighter and Mendes was throwing power shots for the majority of the fight. "Money" had success early, and was able to get a takedown at the end of the first round which may have won him the round. In the second, Mendes knocked the Australian down and looked to finish the fight, but then Volkanovski stunned him with a right hand. From there, Mendes took him down, Volkanovski got back to his feet and then proceeded to land a huge elbow on the Team Alpha Male fighter. Volkanovski landed a big punch to put Mendes down and then followed up with punches to get the TKO victory.

Mendes has been around seemingly forever, but he's still just 33 years old. There's no reason he can't make another run at the UFC Featherweight Championship in the near future.
