Crushed in first fight in six years
LightweightUFC
September 16, 2023
Reyes lost to Charlie Campbell via TKO (punches) at 3:38 of Round 1 at Noche UFC on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Reyes made his UFC debut on this date six years ago. That was a knockout loss to Mike Perry. He has been a member of the UFC roster the entire time since, but had not been back in the Octagon until here against Campbell. It didn't go well. Set to turn 37 years of age in early October, Reyes couldn't avoid anything his opponent sent his way. Frankly, Alex was lucky to hang on as long as he did considering all the damage he absorbed. Stranger things have happened, but the odds would be clearly against Reyes receiving a third opportunity with the company.

LightweightUFC
September 8, 2023
Reyes will now fight Charlie Campbell at Noche UFC on Sept. 16, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
This is the latest of several last-minute changes for this event. Reyes was originally scheduled to fight Natan Levy before he pulled out for undisclosed reasons. Reyes' new opponent will be making his UFC debut, but Reyes will have some rust to shake off with this being his first fight since 2017.
Another fight scheduled
LightweightUFC
August 9, 2023
Reyes is scheduled to fight Alex Reyes in a lightweight bout at Noche UFC in Paradise on Sept. 16, according to Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Because of a rare spinal infection and multiple withdrawals before and after his diagnosis, Reyes has not fought since 2017. The string of bad luck could come to an end at Noche UFC though. Reyes could log his first fight since 2017 and compete against a lightweight also trying to compete in 2023 after a bout cancellation of his own.

February 14, 2023
Reyes (undisclosed) withdrew from his lightweight fight against Trevor Peek at UFC Vegas 70 on Feb. 25, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Reyes was poised to enter the Octagon for the first time since 2017 after he dealt with a rare spinal infection, but he's now off the Feb. 25 card for unspecified reasons. Peek will remain and take on Erick Gonzalez, who also saw his opponent (Darrius Flowers) withdraw.
Returning from five-year layoff
LightweightUFC
January 7, 2023
Reyes has defied the odds and is set to make his long awaited return to the octagon against Trevor Peek at UFC Vegas 70 on Feb. 25, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
After being being diagnosed with a rare spinal infection in 2018 and being told he may never walk again, Reyes has already won his biggest fight by booking this bout. Prior to his diagnosis, he was a 13-3 as a professional fighter and lost his only UFC match. The loss came in 2017 to Mike Perry, who he fought up a weight class and on short notice. He will now square off against Peek, who will be making his debut with the company after defeating Malik Lewis via TKO (punches) in Round 2 of Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender series.
Details spinal condition
LightweightUFC
December 3, 2019
Reyes revealed to Nolan King of MMAJunkie.com that he has been diagnosed with a rare spinal infection called osteomyelitis that was caught from a tainted stem cell injection treatment.
ANALYSIS
Reyes, the older brother of former UFC bantamweight Dominick Reyes, made a short-notice UFC debut in September of 2017 and hasn't fought with the company since. He was scheduled to compete in London in March of 2018, but withdrew from the fight for a reason undisclosed at the time and has been largely silent about his absence since. He eventually revealed to King the condition he was diagnosed with and the resulting complications, and while this is an infection that will remain dormant in his body forever, the older Reyes is adamant he will eventually return to the UFC.
