Yahoo DFS Hockey: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

Tuesday's seven game slate presents some lopsided matchups as well as some even ones. Let's take a look at where to find the best values within them.

Goalie

Andrei Vasilevskiy, TB vs. OTT ($32)

Considering how outstanding he has been and how bad the team facing him has been all season, it's definitely surprising to see Vasilevskiy priced this low Tuesday. The young Russian will likely see action after receiving a day off Saturday, and in such scenarios he is 11-1-0 this season. Considering the Senators are averaging 2.60 goals per game thus far in March, you have to start Vasy for this value.

Goalie to Avoid

Devan Dubnyk, MIN vs. COL ($38)

The case against Dubnyk here is mostly based on the matchup -- the 31-year-old has gotten repeatedly shelled by the Avalanche this year, allowing 11 goals on just 49 shots across two starts, both of which resulted in losses. Besides that, Colorado's offense is really hitting its stride right now, averaging four goals per game in March so far. At this high price point, you can't really trust Dubnyk enough to pull through for you.

Center

Carl Soderberg, COL @ MIN ($18)

Soderberg has been playing inspired hockey of late, racking up four goals, eight points, and a plus-5 rating while seeing a decently substantial amount of power-play ice time over the last six contests. In addition, the Swede has been a major thorn in the side of the Wild this season, as he has netted three goals on 10 shots on goal to go with an assist in three games against Minnesota.

Center to Avoid

Sean Monahan, CGY vs. EDM ($20)

There is some concern that Monahan may not play Tuesday's contest due to an undisclosed injury after he missed Monday's practice, but even if he does go, he's not a very safe choice here. For one, the 23-year-old has just three points and a minus-3 rating in the last seven games, the second statistic being of real concern against Edmonton's offense. For another, Monahan has not recorded a point in three games against the Oilers this season.

Wings

Jake DeBrusk, BOS @ CAR ($18)

DeBrusk has come on strong since Rick Nash started skating on his line, tallying nine points in his last seven games. Specifically, the rookie winger has really started to find his game with the man advantage, recording five of his nine power-play points in the last six contests. That is excellent news coming into Tuesday's matchup, as the Hurricanes are killing off just 63.6 percent of their penalties in March and 78.3 percent overall.

Brendan Gallagher, MON vs. DAL ($17)

While Gallagher's scoring totals aren't completely awe-inspiring, he's still Canadiens' leader in points and goals, and his appeal for daily purposes lies in his willingness to shoot the puck consistently -- the 25-year-old has taken three shots or more in 13 of the last 16 contests. Gallagher was able to find twine the first time he faced Dallas this season and with Ben Bishop (knee) still injured, this is a goalie corps that can be compromised.

Wings to Avoid

Blake Wheeler, WPG @ NSH ($31)

Tuesday's matchup between Winnipeg and Nashville is projected to be a highly defensive one, as the two teams both rank in the top five in the league in terms of goals allowed and are both allowing two goals per game or fewer in March. That doesn't bode well for Wheeler, who has not lit the lamp in eight consecutive games while posting a minus-9 rating over that span. The Predators could make it difficult for either metric to improve.

Jeff Skinner, CAR vs. BOS ($18)

The last nine games have not been kind to Skinner, as he has no goals, four assists, and a minus-5 rating over that time period. The lack of goals is all the more disturbing when you realize that he's also taken 33 shots on goal during that span, suggesting he just isn't feeling his shot right now. Things aren't likely to get better when Tuukka Rask and company come to town, so you can find better options in this price range.

Defensemen

Mark Giordano, CGY vs. EDM ($19)

Giordano provides you a sure presence on both ends of the ice, which could be majorly beneficial for Tuesday's matchup in particular. The Flames' captain has recorded eight points while firing 39 shots on goal in the last eight games, and he still holds down the blue line during the man advantage. On the season, he's also blocked 136 shots, a skill that will come in handy against the Oilers, who are averaging 33.9 shots per game.

Ryan McDonagh, TB vs. OTT ($17)

McDonagh donned a Lightning sweater for the first time Saturday and, as expected, was limited in both production and minutes, logging just 19:15 of ice time coming off an upper-body injury. After three days rest and more time to get adjusted to his new team, it would not be surprising to see the University of Wisconsin product get more involved, both at even strength and on the power play, especially against the lowly Senators.

Defensemen to Avoid

John Klingberg, DAL @ MON ($25)

Klingberg is mired in a slump of sorts right now, having accumulated just three assists and a minus-4 rating in the last 10 contests, and for the sort of cash you'd be shelling out for him Tuesday, you should be asking for better production. The Canadiens have had their problems this season, but one of their strengths has been in stopping defensemen, as they allow just 1.85 points per game to the position.

P.K. Subban, NSH vs. WPG ($25)

As previously mentioned, Tuesday's affair in Nashville threatens to be a low scoring one, and that works very much against the offensively-minded Subban. To get specific, the Toronto native is a power-play force, having posted 20 of his 50 points with the man advantage this season, so it may be tough sledding against a Winnipeg penalty kill that ranks fifth in the league with a 82.9 penalty-killing percentage.
