Fanduel NHL: Friday Value Plays

Fanduel NHL: Friday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

Goalie

Mike Smith, CGY vs. DAL $8,200: It's a risky proposition, but the Stars just played on Thursday night against the Oilers and now face the Flames in Calgary on Friday. The Flames have struggled at home thus far, but Smith has been very solid for them overall. He's 5-4 with a 2.49 goals against average and a .928 save percentage with a shutout. The Stars are dangerous but have been inconsistent. I look for Smith to have a solid game here at a nice salary.

Center

Bryan Little, WPG at CBJ $4,900: The Jets and Blue Jackets faceoff on Friday in a game that should be entertaining with plenty of scoring chances. Little had an assist in Thursday's game against the Penguins but overall has struggled to find his scoring touch thus far. He's still centering a good line with Nikolaj Ehlers and Patrik Laine flanking him at the wings.

Victor Rask, CAR vs. STL $4,200: Rask got off to a miserable start to the season but did have a goal and an assist in Thursday's game in Toronto. He's still on the second line and is seeing time on the top power-play unit, giving him ample opportunity to hit value at a bargain salary.

Wing

Mark Stone, OTT at NJ $5,500: Stone continues to be underpriced as a major factor in the Senators lineup. He's seen 20 plus minutes of ice time in four of his last five games. In his last three contests, he has three goals, one assist and 14 shots on goal. Skating on the team's top line and top power-play unit, Stone offers a solid floor at a comically low salary.

Boone Jenner, CBJ vs. WPG $4,800: Jenner has played in two games since returning from injury and has skated well in both games, even though he's been held scoreless. He's penciled in on the second line and is expected to see power play time in a game that should see some scoring from Columbus, as Winnipeg is playing in their second game in as many nights.

Alex DeBrincat, CHI vs. NSH $3,400: It's easy to say go with Patrick Kane, Richard Panik or even linemate Brandon Saad in this spot, but going with Debrincat will give you a ton in savings while still rostering a skater with upside. He's slotted in on the top line along with Saad and Jonathan Toews, as well as on the top power-play unit for the Blackhawks. I like him and the cap flexibility he brings with him in this spot.

Alexander Steen, STL at CAR $5,200: Steen is coming off of a massive effort on Wednesday against the Flames in a game in which he had a goal and three assists. He's played in four games, as he was working his way back from injury, but is skating well and is a good bargain for a Blue team averaging over three goals per game.

Defense

Jacob Trouba, WPG at CBJ $4,400: In Thursday's article, Trouba was one of my plays and he performed well with an assist, three shots on goal and two blocked shots. I'm going back to the well with him on Friday in a good spot against the Blue Jackets, as his price has not increased. He offers upside on offense with a good volume of shots and safety with his defensive play as a good shot blocker.

Roman Josi, NSH at CHI $6,300: Looking at his salary, you may not think Josi is a viable value option. However, looking at his play of late and his matchup you'd likely ask yourself, "Why isn't this guy more expensive?" In his last four games, Josi has totaled 33.3, 9.6, 11.2 and 33.8 FanDuel points respectively. Over that span, he has two goals, two assists, 18 shots on goal and six blocked shots. The Blackhawks have allowed the third-most fantasy points to defensemen this season. Lock him in.
