DraftKings NHL: Thursday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

Ben Bishop, DAL at EDM ($7,400) – Admittedly, taking any goalie going up against Connor McDavid is not a great idea, but the Oilers are struggling and Bishop was seething when he was pulled in his previous game against the Avalanche. It wasn't Bishop's fault he allowed three goals on just 17 shots; he was hung out to dry and Ken Hitchcock pulled him to send the team a message, and the Stars will certainly put in a better effort on defense. The Oilers, meanwhile, have scored just four goals in their past three games and have won just once in their past six.

CENTER

Steven Stamkos, TB vs. DET ($7,700) – It's a surprise that Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov are so far ahead in the scoring race, but what's more surprising is that 17 of Stamkos' 20 points are assists. He's now a set-up man for the Lightning's No. 1 ranked power play, and they'll have the definite edge against the Wings' No. 7 penalty kill. Stamkos is shooting for his sixth consecutive multi-point game, and he's now scored 40 points in 27 games dating back to the previous season.

Vincent Trocheck, FLA vs. ANH ($6,000) – Trocheck's scored three points in his past three games and is averaging 21:46 per game, fourth in the league among forwards. His main competition on the team is Aleksander Barkov, who's still the No. 1 center, but Trocheck's also used in a lot of offensive situations and shoots the puck more willingly. John Gibson has been good, but the Ducks defense has allowed more than 30 shots in three consecutive games, including 51 against the Habs.

WING

Nikita Kucherov, TB vs. DET ($8,200) – He's feasted on the power play this season with Stamkos setting him up, failing to score a goal in a game just once this season. He's not a volume shooter like Alex Ovechkin, who needs a lot of attempts to score. The Lightning's top-ranked power play will be tested against the Red Wings.

David Pastrnak, BOS vs. SJ ($7,100) – He's one of the league's hottest players with goals in four straight games, giving him six on the season. Only five players have scored more than one goal for the B's, which means Pastrnak and Brad Marchand will continue to be their top scoring options.

Jake Virtanen, VAN vs. WAS ($3,200) – Since moving onto a line with the Sedins, Virtanen has been playing more minutes and scored a goal in two straight games, including an eight-shot effort against Detroit. He's a big winger with great wheels and a very good shot, and clearly, he's at his best when he's using it. It'll be the first time Virtanen plays at home since going on his hot streak, and Travis Green can line-match all night on home ice.

DEFENSE

Kevin Shattenkirk, NYR vs. ARI ($5,700) – With seven points in 10 games, Shattenkirk is not the problem when it comes to the Rangers' scoring woes. They're ranked 18th in the league with 25 goals, but the good news is that they'll be facing the Coyotes' 28th-ranked offense and their third-string goalie Adin Hill, who will be playing in just his third NHL game.

Brandon Montour, ANH at FLA ($4,300) – The first thing about Montour is that he's an excellent shooter, which is a big reason why he managed to score 25 goals over two seasons with AHL San Diego. Even with the Ducks' defense getting healthy and having plenty of right-shot defensemen, Montour continues to get his ice time and has scored in consecutive games. Montour, a former lacrosse player, has the potential to become the Ducks' power-play quarterback by the end of the season.
