Kendricks was released by the 49ers on Saturday, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
The 31-year-old landed on injured reserve during the preseason and was eventually released off of IR by the 49ers. However, he re-signed Monday after passing his physical. It's unclear why San Francisco elected to move on from the linebacker so quickly, but he will likely draw interest from other teams around the league.

Niners still interested

Kendricks visited with the 49ers on Monday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The veteran linebacker signed with the team in August but got released with an injury settlement in early September after injuring his toe during the Niners' second preseason game. Kendricks apparently is healthy enough to attempt to catch on again with San Francisco, and the team could use some additional depth at his position with Dre Greenlaw out until at least November after undergoing core muscle surgery.

Kendricks is a talented linebacker who averaged 46 defensive snaps over four games with the Seahawks last year, but the cloud of the insider trading charges he is facing still hangs over his head. It's possible the 28-year-old could miss the entire 2019 season due to the legal issues, but it's also possible he will compete for a starting role in training camp. After the Seahawks traded Barkeveious Mingo and Jacob Martin to the Texans for Jadeveon Clowney, Kendricks appears to be the favorite to start at outside linebacker opposite K.J. Wright. However, Kendricks' fantasy value will be up in the air until more is sewn up in the legal process
Defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz installed a 4-3 scheme upon his arrival in Philadelphia last season, rendering Kendricks essentially moot. He would only play 27 percent of his team's defensive snaps in 2016, resulting in career lows across the board: just 32 tackles and no sacks with just one pass defensed. The Eagles were openly looking to deal him prior to the draft and will also save $5 million in cap room should they cut him after June 1. Therefore, it's highly likely Kendricks will be on a different team prior to the beginning of the 2017 season. If he latches on with a team that uses him as he was accustomed prior to Schwartz's arrival, he could return to his usual production of 80-plus tackles to go with three or four sacks. If he returns, however, he will likely only exceed last year's numbers in the event of injury to Jordan Hicks or Nigel Bradham.
Kendricks might not be as good as his brother in Minnesota, but even the elder Kendricks has standout-IDP upside. Mychal lacks the instincts of his brother, but has even better athleticism, making him an explosive blitzer with sideline-to-sideline range. He has 274 tackles and 11 sacks in his last 2,314 snaps, giving hope for a box score to the effect of 120 tackles and five sacks if he should play 1,000 snaps. But that's the problem - Kendricks has never played 16 games in a season, and in the last two years he's missed seven games.
Among known NFL commodities, Kendricks might be one of the most likely to get traded before the season. The former second-round pick has been a fine player for Philadelphia the last two years, with his elite athleticism allowing him to become a strong blitzer in particular, but the Eagles re-signed DeMeco Ryans in the offseason and traded LeSean McCoy for Kiko Alonso. It's possible that Philadelphia signed Ryans to play as a backup, but it somehow seems less than likely, and Alonso is definitely going to start. With one year left on his rookie contract, Kendricks has been heavily linked to trade possibilities, but he was still stuck in Philadelphia after the draft. For now, Kendricks is a risky if not undraftable IDP with Ryans and Alonso around, but if Kendricks gets traded he'll get back on the LB2 radar.
Kendricks hasn't been the most reliable player in his first two years – the Eagles almost certainly wish they hadn't taken him over Lavonte David and Bobby Wagner – but he's still an elite athletic talent who should hold onto a three-down role in 2014. Since he's heading into his third year, it's reasonable to expect progress after a 2013 season in which he totaled 106 tackles, four sacks and three interceptions. With cornerback-like speed at 240 pounds, Kendricks is one of the league's best blitzers at inside linebacker, and he might do even better than the four sacks he logged last year. He finished the last four weeks of 2013 on fire, piling up 30 tackles, three sacks, two interceptions and two forced fumbles.
Kendricks was effective in real life last year, but was a non-factor as an IDP with just 75 tackles in 15 games. He should take the next step as a sophomore and earn high grades in both regards in 2013. After playing outside on the strong side as a rookie, Kendricks will play inside in Philadelphia's 3-4, giving him clearer access to ballcarriers. Coach Chip Kelly's aggressive style should lead the team to use Kendricks' immense athleticism as a blitzer and in coverage, too, so there's upside here.
Kendricks isn’t a guarantee to start at outside linebacker this year for Philadelphia, but he should be considered the favorite to earn the role. Kendricks is a top-10 athlete league-wide among linebackers and is the sort of attack-style player that fits well in the Eagles’ blitz-heavy defense. Kendricks led California with 106 tackles last year, including 14 tackles for a loss. His excellent explosiveness should make him similarly disruptive for the Eagles, and Philadelphia’s deep and dangerous defensive line should open blitzing lanes.
