CFB Waiver Wire: Players to Pick Up Week 3

This article is part of our CFB Waiver Wire series.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC

Courtland Sutton, WR, SMU: Sutton backed up his Week 1 performance of 162 yards and three touchdowns with six catches for 112 yards and a touchdown against Baylor. After leading the team in receiving as a freshman, Sutton is primed for a huge season and should be owned in every format. The Mustangs play Liberty on Saturday, and it's a good bet Sutton will record his third consecutive 100-yard game with a score or two.

Riley Ferguson, QB, Memphis:
Coming off a bye week, Memphis will play one of the worst Power-5 teams in Kansas. The Jayhawks recently gave up 37 points in a loss to Ohio and had a tough time keeping its offense on the field, translating to more opportunities for Memphis if this occurs again. Ferguson might lack the experience of other quarterbacks in the conference, but his volume (26-of-40 passing) in his debut ensures a quality start against Kansas.

ACC

Hunter Renfrow, WR, Clemson: The former walk-on is trending upward with impressive touchdown catches in each of Clemson's first two games. Going back to last year, Renfrow has a touchdown catch in four consecutive games, including seven catches for 88 yards and two touchdowns in the national championship loss to Alabama. Renfrow has emerged as a security blanket for quarterback Deshaun Watson in the red-zone while teammates Artavis Scott and Mike Williams draw most of the attention from opposing defenses. This week, Clemson has FCS opponent, South Carolina State, who the

This week, Clemson has FCS opponent, South Carolina State, who the team beat 73-7 just a couple years ago.

Mark Walton, RB, Miami:
Even with Joseph Yearby entrenched as the team's starting running back, Walton's 32 carries for 271 yards and five touchdowns after just two games has the fantasy world taking notice. Paired with one of the better offensive lines in the country and a stud quarterback in Brad Kaaya, Walton should receive enough touches each week to help a fantasy team that needs a running back. Walton and the Hurricanes travel to Appalachian State on Saturday.

BIG 12

Terence Williams, RB, Baylor: Teammate and co-starter, Shock Linwood, is likely owned in most fantasy leagues. However, Williams is potentially just as valuable as he's totaled 30 touches to Linwood's 28 over the first two weeks. Williams has two touchdowns and Linwood has yet to score. Both are in line for a great opportunity Friday Night when Baylor takes on a Rice team that has averaged 36 points allowed in two losses. With Johnny Jefferson stepping away from the team this year, Williams has a lot of upside alongside Linwood.

Shane Buechele, QB, Texas:
If you didn't grab him off the waiver wire after his spectacular debut against Notre Dame, go do it now. Buechele was impressive once again while throwing four touchdowns in a win over UTEP. With talented receivers like Jacorey Warrick, John Burt, Armanti Foreman and Jerrod Heard, Buechele should continue to get better as the season goes on. Buechele even showed a little in the zone-read option with 34 yards rushing. Texas plays at California this week in a game that should have a high over/under.

BIG TEN

D.J. Moore, WR, Maryland: Moore had his breakout game Friday against Florida International while catching a career-high six passes for 147 yards and two touchdowns. The sophomore showed potential in 2015, but now has improved quarterback play from Perry Hillis. The Terps play a bad UCF team this week that gave up 51 points to Michigan and has a favorable beginning to the Big Ten schedule with Purdue, Penn State and Minnesota.

Wilton Speight, QB, Michigan:
With Central Florida committed against the run, Speight showed off his arm, throwing for 312 yards and four touchdowns in his second start of the year. Michigan has won its first two games by a combined 97 points. Coach Jim Harbaugh works wonders with the quarterback position, and it shouldn't be any different against Colorado this week. Look for Speight and the Wolverines to light up the scoreboard once again.

CONFERENCE USA

Jarred Craft, RB, Louisiana Tech: After watching Arizona State's Kalen Ballage tie an NCAA record with eight touchdowns against Texas Tech, Craft has to be licking his chops to go up against the Red Raiders non-existent defense. In the Bulldogs' first two games, Craft has been effective in limited work, averaging 7.1 yards per carry on only 23 touches. QB Ryan Higgins and WR Trent Taylor are also strong plays this week.

Brent Stockstill, QB, Middle Tennessee:
With one of the best receivers in the nation in Richie James, Stockstill is well on his way to following up a breakout freshman season when he threw for 4,005 yards and 30 touchdowns. The Blue Raiders play at Bowling Green this week, and it's time to start picking up Stockstill in all fantasy leagues as he's thrown for more than 300 yards with at least three touchdowns in each of the first two games.

MAC

Jamauri Bogan, RB, Western Michigan: Senior WR Corey Davis and senior QB Zach Terrell are owned in most leagues, but it's time to start taking advantage of the sophomore Bogan. In the Broncos' first two games, Bogan rushed for 234 yards and two touchdowns on his way to 6.0 yards per carry. He's the MAC's reigning freshman of the year and will be a pivotal piece when Western Michigan attempts to knock off its second Big Ten team of the year at Illinois this week.

Ian Eriksen, RB, Eastern Michigan:
Starting running back Shaq Vann was sidelined after just one series against Missouri with a shoulder injury. In his place, Ericksen came in and rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown versus a stout SEC defensive line. If Vann is forced to miss additional time or if Eagles take a cautious approach with their talented sophomore back, Ericksen could have sleeper potential behind an experienced offensive line. Eastern Michigan plays Charlotte and Wyoming in its next two games.

MOUNTAIN WEST

Dalyn Dawkins, RB, Colorado State: Dawkins gets a waiver wire recommendation because of the mess Colorado State has at quarterback as coach Mike Bobo has now tried both graduate transfer Faton Bauta and true freshman Collin Hill with bad results. With FCS Northern Colorado on the schedule this week, Dawkins likely will be the focal point. Through the first two games, Dawkins has averaged 5.4 yards per carry behind one of the better offensive lines in the conference.

Hasaan Henderson, WR, Nevada:
Henderson has caught only four passes for 27 yards through the Wolf Pack's first two games, but his production should take a big jump in the next three weeks as Nevada plays Buffalo, Purdue and Hawaii. With 10 returning starters on offense, Nevada is a lot better than it's shown as it had to play a very good Notre Dame team on the road.

PAC-12

Davis Webb, QB, California: Entering the season, we knew Webb would get a lot of opportunities in Cal's up-tempo offense, but I'm not sure anyone could predict that he would have 126 passing attempts for 963 yards and nine touchdowns in the first two games. The Bears' next opponent, Texas, also plays a high-tempo offense, so Webb should have more than 50 passing attempts for the third week in a row.

Dante Pettis, WR, Washington:
I'm sure fantasy owners would rather own the Huskies' best receiver in John Ross, who already has four touchdowns, however, quarterback Jake Browning has been so good that there's room for more production at the position. Pettis caught two touchdowns on six catches against Idaho on Saturday and is the team's leading receiver from a year ago. Washington could have one of the nation's best offenses.

SEC

Luke Del Rio, QB, Florida: The Gators' offense has racked up 69 points with two wins and look like a SEC East contender again. Del Rio completed 19-of-32 passes for 320 yards and four touchdowns Saturday against Kentucky. In a conference that is starved for solid quarterback play, Del Rio could fit the bill with an easier non-conference foe in North Texas this week as well as an easier start to the SEC schedule with Tennessee and Vanderbilt in the following weeks.

Josh Malone, WR, Tennessee:
Malone is the No. 1 receiver for the Volunteers and a legitimate deep threat for quarterback Joshua Dobbs. Tennessee started the season with a couple great defensive teams in Appalachian State and Virginia Tech, but that won't be the case this week when the Volunteers play host to Ohio. While Malone has recorded only four catches through the first two games, two went for touchdowns. Expect Tennessee's offense to look a lot more like one of the nation's best this week.

SUN BELT

Deondre Douglas, WR, Troy: Through the first two games, Douglas already has 18 catches and a pair of touchdowns. Troy managed 24 points and played a close game against Clemson on Saturday, so it's not out of the question that the Trojans could compete with Southern Mississippi this week. Brandon Silvers is one of the most efficient signal callers in the conference and Douglas appears to be his favorite target.

Tyler Jones, QB, Texas State:
Coming off a bye week, Jones and the Bobcats have a couple of tough matchups against Arkansas and Houston. The idea behind grabbing Jones is based on Texas State, throwing with high volume to keep up with those potent offenses. Jones is definitely capable of that type of workload as he threw for 418 yards and four touchdowns on 40-of-55 passing in the team's opening week win against Ohio. He also notched a rushing touchdown, so there's a lot potential for Jones this season, even if it's in garbage time the next couple weeks.
