Yahoo DFS Baseball: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

There are some showers expected in the middle of the country on Saturday, but nothing major to worry about for the night slate. For my squad, I chose the most consistent arm to go with another pitcher on a major discount. That left me with room to go heavy in the outfield with hopes of getting a home run or three.

PITCHER

Patrick Corbin, ARI at NYM ($51): Corbin has been good, although maybe hasn't lived up to his price failing to surpass 22 fantasy points in his last four starts. Looking at it a different way, he's extremely consistent and has hit 19 fantasy points in every start this season. I think this could be one of his huge performances given that the Mets have struggled against southpaws all year with a 27.3 K%, .082 ISO and .252 wOBA – all at the bottom of the charts.

Sean Newcomb, ATL vs. MIA ($29): This price almost feels like a trick. Newcomb hasn't been under 34 bucks since his second start of the season and there's no reason he should've dropped. He's been close to dominant with at least 16 fantasy points in his last seven starts. Even better is that he's allowed just five hits and no runs in his last three outings. The Marlins couldn't hit him last matchup and will struggle again with a .117 ISO and .308 wOBA against lefties.

CATCHER

Pedro Severino, WAS vs. LAD ($7): With Matt Wieters on the DL, Severino should be in for more starts behind the plate. He is mostly a value play, but has a solid .429 BABIP in 35 career plate appearances against southpaws. It helps that Rich Hill is struggling to find a rhythm with 17 runs and 10 walks allowed in his last four starts.

FIRST BASE

Paul Goldschmidt, ARI at NYM ($12): The lone positive for Goldschmidt this season is that he can still hit lefties. He has an early .370 BABIP in 53 plate appearances after roping southpaws for a .280 ISO and .407 wOBA in 2017. Steven Matz has one quality start this year with six homers allowed to righties, and he wasn't much better in limited time last season with a .370 wOBA.

SECOND BASE

Howie Kendrick, WAS vs. LAD ($15): Kendrick's been better against righties early on, but his numbers against lefties should revert closer to last year's .189 ISO and .385 wOBA at some point. Hill has already given up seven homers to 86 righties faced and hasn't made it six innings in his last four outings.

THIRD BASE

Eugenio Suarez, CIN vs. CHC ($20): Suarez is smoking southpaws with seven extra-base hits (four homers) in 24 at-bats. Those numbers are a bit extreme, but he still sported a .228 ISO and .383 wOBA against them last season. Jose Quintana isn't the answer after giving up six runs last start to go with last year's .314 wOBA against righties.

SHORTSTOP

Johan Camargo, ATL vs. MIA ($10): Camargo is always worth a look as a cheap shortstop and he's the first Brave I'm considering. Camargo is hitting righties better early on, but the reason to use him is that Jose Urena struggles mightily against lefty bats as seen in his career 10.8 K% and 5.76 xFIP.

OUTFIELD

Nick Markakis, ATL vs. MIA ($20): Camargo qualifies as the cheap play, while Markakis is the power play. He's smashing all pitchers and has 12 XBH in only 108 at-bats against righties. That's slightly more power than usual, but he still had a .323 wOBA against righty arms last season. Urena pitched a solid six innings against the Braves last start (3 ER), but facing them again will be difficult considering he struggled with a 6.29 xFIP against lefties last season.

Giancarlo Stanton, NYY at KC ($22): If Markakis is the power play, Stanton is the hat-trick. He's only worth using in DFS against southpaws and that's where Danny Duffy comes in. Stanton has 10 XBH in 37 at-bats against lefty arms after a .441 ISO and .480 wOBA in 2017. Duffy likely had trouble sleeping the night before facing the Yankees, especially since he gave up nine runs against the Indians last time out. It doesn't help that he's giving up 2.63 HR/9 against righties this year.

Kyle Schwarber, CHC at CIN ($17):Aaron Hicks ($12) could go here if you need a cheap outfielder, but I wanted at least one guy against Sal Romano, who gave up six runs and eight hits in only 2.1 IP against the Giants last start. Schwarber has seven homers, all against righties, after smacking a .276 ISO against them last season. Romano doesn't give up many homers, but his career 4.84 xFIP against lefty bats isn't good.
