FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Today's DFS action kicks off on Fan Duel at 2:20 PM EST when the Braves travel to Wrigley to take on the Cubs. That's the only afternoon game, with the other eight contests in the main slate starting at 7:05 PM EST. Unlike this weekend, the weather shouldn't play a significant role tonight and the only game that needed to be watched on that front is the Royals taking on the Rays in Kansas City.

For those interested, we've started an MLB DFS Slack channel for paid RotoWire subscribers. (There is a season-long one as well.) To join those channels, e-mail support@rotowire.com.

PITCHER

Tyler Anderson, COL at SD ($6,900): Anderson got shelled in his first outing in Arizona and then put together five solid starts. He's scored at least 29 fantasy points in each of them and averaged 39 fantasy points over that span of games. He's already faced the Padres twice, scoring 34 and 40 fantasy points while striking out a batter per inning over 12 innings against them. As a team, the Padres have the sixth-worst strikeout rate (25.8 percent) and the eighth worst wOBA (.304) against left-handed pitching.

GPP Fade: Lance McCullers, HOU at LAA ($9,300): McCullers has been unhittable at times this season, but this matchup doesn't appear to be great for him. The Angels (.336) have the third-best wOBA against right-handed pitching and strike out only 19.2 percent of the time, also the third-best mark in baseball. McCullers has always pitched better at home (career .282 wOBA) than on the road as well (career .325 wOBA).

Cheap GPP Consideration: Sean Manaea, OAK at BOS ($8,200): Manaea isn't exactly cheap, but he makes for a good GPP play considering the matchup in Boston. Most owners won't take a second look at Manaea, but the stats show he's clearly in play tonight. Boston has the fifth-worst wOBA against lefties (.293) and strikes out 24.1 percent of the time against that handedness (10th-worst in the league). Manaea averages 38.3 fantasy points per outing and while he's struggled over his last two starts, they were against two of the better wOBA teams versus lefties – Seattle and Houston.

CATCHER/FIRST BASE

Evan Gattis, HOU at LAA ($2,300): Gattis comes in to this one swinging a hot bat with home runs in two straight games, and it seem that people forget how good he's been against left-handed pitching for his career. His career wOBA against them sat at .330 before Sunday's home run off Matt Moore, and he'll get another lefty tonight in Andrew Heaney. Heaney for his career has allowed a .355 wOBA to right-handed hitters.

SECOND BASE

Brian Dozier, MIN vs SEA ($3,700): Dozier has been a beast against southpaws over the last few seasons with a .397 and .437 wOBA the last two years, which is in line with his .402 mark in 2018. Wade LeBlanc (.321 wOBA vs right-handed batters) isn't a pitcher to be overly concerned about, especially on the road. This is a pretty easy call considering how weak the position is tonight on a shortened slate.

THIRD BASE

Kyle Seager, SEA at MIN ($3,400): Seager has found his hitting stroke on this road trip with three home runs and two doubles over his last four games. He has the lefty-vs-righty split working in his favor, and his career wOBA against right-handed pitching sits at .349. Jake Odorizzi has typically had a reverse platoon split in his career, but that hasn't been the case to begin 2018 thanks largely to six HR allowed in only 18.1 innings against lefties.

SHORTSTOP

Brandon Crawford, SF vs CIN ($2,800): The Giants return home from a 10-game road trip and Crawford seemingly found his bat along the way, raising his batting average 50 points since May 1. Sal Romano's 5.05 xFIP suggests there's some correction coming to his 3.83 ERA, and for his short career the right-hander has given up a .371 wOBA to left-handed hitters when on the road.

OUTFIELD

Matt Joyce, OAK at BOS ($2,700): Joyce continues to hit well against right-handed pitching and is typically towards the top of the lineup against that handedness. His .348 OBP tells a much different story than his .196 batting average, and his .360 and .381 wOBAs against right-handed pitching the last two seasons shows there may even be some positive regression on the horizon.

Jorge Soler, KC vs TB ($3,800): Soler has scored fantasy points in every game this season (25) except one, giving him a remarkably stable floor. He has a .508 wOBA against left-handed pitching this season in 50 plate appearances and will face off at home against 26-year-old rookie southpaw Ryan Yarbrough.

UTILITY

C.J. Cron, TB at KC ($3,400): Cron appears to have found a home in Tampa where he's getting regular at-bats as opposed to being part of Mike Scioscia's strange 1B/DH rotation with the Angels. Cron has absolutely raked against left-handed pitching this season with a .462 wOBA, and the matchup is a really good one against Eric Skoglund. In his short career Skoglund has given up a .374 wOBA to right-handed hitters. Just double-check the weather here before using any Rays or Royals.
