Could get semi-regular run
OFSan Francisco Giants
August 30, 2019
Gerber, who leads the Pacific Coast League with 41 doubles this season, could get semi-regular playing time for San Francisco down the stretch.
ANALYSIS
Gerber went 1-for-15 during a brief audition with the big club back in May, but he's done nothing but rake with Triple-A Sacramento this season, clubbing 68 extra-base hits in 116 games. Alex Dickerson has struggled to a .212/.297/.273 line in 12 games since his return from an oblique injury earlier this month. Dickerson didn't play at all in 2017 or 2018 and may be wearing down at this stage of the season. Gerber isn't part of the team's long-term future, but he would seem deserving of another chance to prove himself after the year he's had at Triple-A.

2016 Fantasy Outlook
As a 15th round pick in 2014, Gerber lacks pedigree, and at 23 he was a bit older than the typical Low-A prospect dynasty league owners get excited about. However, his numbers in 2015 were hard to ignore. Gerber slashed .292/.355/.468 from the left side with 13 homers and 16 steals in 583 plate appearances in the pitcher-friendly Florida State League en route to being named the Tigers’ minor league hitter of the year. He was deployed primarily in right field and at DH for West Michigan, and along with Christin Stewart he will form a frightening middle of the order combo for High-A Lakeland in 2016. The standard qualifications about late-round college hitters who are old for their level apply here, but in a Tigers system that is heavy on pitching, Gerber qualifies as one in a small handful bats to watch next season.
