Michael Bisping

The Count

England

Officially retires
MiddleweightOther
May 28, 2018
Bisping announced his retirement from MMA on Monday, Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Bisping was talking about potentially moving to a higher weight class earlier this month, however he's decided to call it quits and officially retire. The former UFC middleweight champion will hang up the gloves with a record of 30-9, including a perfect 8-0 in his home country of England. As one of the greatest British fighters to ever grace the Octagon, and with 14 years of professional fighting under his belt, Bisping will now take his talents to the broadcast booth, where he works as a TV analyst for FS1. He may have finished his career with consecutive losses (on big stages to stellar competition), but with several nagging injury concerns, the 39-year-old will retire before sustaining serious, long-term damage -- something too few fighters are willing to do these days.

Could move up a weight class for return
MiddleweightOther
May 6, 2018
Bisping stated via his personal Twitter account that he's uncertain about a return to MMA, but if he does, it won't be in the middleweight (185 pounds) division.
ANALYSIS
Bisping indirectly referred to Luke Rockhold in his tweet as "the last person I knocked out," alluding to a potential rematch between the two at light heavyweight. The former middleweight champion stated that he currently weighs 225 pounds and is "pretty ripped," adding that he'll "never" return to the 185-pound division once again. There are certainly fights to be made for Bisping in a relatively shallow 205-pound division, but at 39 years old, it seems unlikely he'll fight for a title again before hanging up the gloves on a historic career.
Won't fight at London event in March
MiddleweightOther
January 30, 2018
Despite earlier rumors, Bisping disclosed via his personal Twitter account that he will not be fighting at the UFC's London event on March 17.
ANALYSIS
Bisping's window as a professional cage fighter is closing, but many thought he would set up a retirement fight in his home country of England. The promotion's London event remains without a headliner, and a fighter with the name recognition and drawing power of Bisping would have certainly fit the bill. That will no longer come to pass, however, as the UFC and former middleweight champion seem to have been unable to work out a deal. It's probably a positive for the long-term health of Bisping, who fought twice in a span of three weeks back in November and was finished via first-round knockout in the second matchup. The 38-year-old no longer will be affecting the title picture in the 185-pound division, but still likely has a fight or two left in him to cap off what's been an outstanding career.
Given 60 days off after Shanghai
MiddleweightOther
November 30, 2017
Bisping received a 60-day medical suspension from the UFC following his UFC Fight Night loss to Kelvin Gastelum on Saturday, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Bisping took this fight against Gastelum just three weeks after he lost his belt to Georges St. Pierre. Unfortunately, it didn't go well for him as Bisping fell via first-round KO (punches). While he was seeking redemption and instead suffered another loss, Bisping took some punishment and has been given a 60-day medical suspension by the UFC as a result. He will have to sit out of active competition unless cleared earlier by a physician.
Loses via KO in short turnaround fight in Shanghai
MiddleweightOther
November 26, 2017
Bisping was defeated by Kelvin Gastelum via KO (punches) at 2:30 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night: Shanghai on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
This was Bisping's second fight in three weeks. He was seeking redemption from a submission loss to now-UFC middleweight champion Georges St. Pierre. After he was knocked down before the submission in that fight, it seems it was not in his best interest to fight after such a short period of rest as he was brutally knocked out in Round 1. Bisping seemed to be finding his groove about a minute into the fight until Gastelum slipped a right hook. Off the slip, he countered with a right hook of his own and followed it up with a devastating left hand. After the knockdown, Gastelum landed follow-up punches that were likely unnecessary.
Steps in to take on Kelvin Gastelum in Shanghai
MiddleweightOther
November 12, 2017
Bisping will face Kelvin Gastelum in a middleweight fight at UFC Fight Night 122 on November 25 in Shanghai, China.
ANALYSIS
Bisping looks to be jumping right back on the horse after losing his title to Georges St-Pierre on Nov. 4. The No. 2 UFC middleweight has decided to fill in for Anderson Silva against Kelvin Gastelum in two weeks. Silva was pulled from the fight due to an anti-doping violation. Bisping is 31-8 overall and will be a huge challenge for Gastelum to prepare for on short notice.
