NHL Waiver Wire: Picks of the Week

This article is part of our NHL Waiver Wire series.

It's the final week of the regular season, so there are a few extra players to consider. Make sure to double-check your league settings to ensure you're maximizing all your transaction and games played limits.

Remember to also look at the availability of players previously covered in this space listed below and keep tabs on the recommended adds in our Daily Puck articles throughout the week. Feel free to hit the comments with any questions or if you have a coin-flip decision.

Finally, thanks for tuning in each week and all the best chasing down your title…

Jake Guentzel, F, PIT (Yahoo: 17%, ESPN: 27%, CBS: 42%): The rookie scored in his first game back from a concussion that sidelined him for four outings, but more importantly, he also returned to Sidney Corsby's flank. Guentzel has turned in a solid showing with 11 goals, 25 points and 68 shots through 35 games, and he's primed for a strong conclusion to the season skating on the top line and No. 2 power-play unit.

Tanner Kero, F, CHI (Yahoo: 1%, ESPN: 2%, CBS: 2%): Entering Sunday's bout against Boston, Kero sported a three-game point streak with a goal and three helpers. He's settled into a ripe offensive role between Patrick Kane and Artemi Panarin, so Kero presents significant upside for the duration of his stay with the duo.

Gustav Nyquist, F, DET (Yahoo: 29%, ESPN: 34%, CBS: 40%): Scoring at his best pace of the season with four

He's settled into a ripe offensive role between Patrick Kane and Artemi Panarin, so Kero presents significant upside for the duration of his stay with the duo.

Gustav Nyquist, F, DET (Yahoo: 29%, ESPN: 34%, CBS: 40%): Scoring at his best pace of the season with four goals, 15 points and 33 shots through his past 15 games, Nyquist is thriving on a line with Henrik Zetterberg and Tomas Tatar. Nyquist also has six multi-point outings during the 15-game stretch, so his ceiling remains high. There should also be positive regression ahead of his 7.1 shooting percentage.

Jordan Weal, F, PHI (Yahoo: 1%, ESPN: 2%, CBS: 3%): After wearing out the AHL the past three seasons with 58 goals and 186 points through 192 games, Weal has found the goals column in four consecutive games while slotting into a top-six role. The 24-year-old forward has scored at every level, but with just three games remaining this week, Weal is likely more a streaming target outside of cavernous leagues.

Kris Versteeg, F, CGY (Yahoo: 3%, ESPN: 3%, CBS: 11%): While likely left to deep settings, Versteeg has found an offensive groove with three goals, 10 points (five with the man advantage) and 32 shots through his past 14 outings. The veteran has also established himself as a key cog on the No. 1 power-play unit, which has been better of late with 7.64 goals per 60 minutes compared to a season-long mark of 6.85.

Patrick Eaves, F, ANA (Yahoo: 32%, ESPN: 56%, CBS: 58%): With six tallies and 21 shots through his past seven games, Eaves is clicking with Ryan Getzlaf and Rickard Rakell. The 29-year-old veteran has scored a career-high 29 goals for the campaign, and during his seven-game heater, Eaves is averaging a respectable 16:00 of ice time with 2:35 on power play.

Andrei Markov, D, MON (Yahoo: 48%, ESPN: 83%, CBS: 87%): It's been a strong stretch for the veteran, and Markov owns a target-worthy floor of production. He's posted two goals, nine points and 27 shots with 19 blocked shots and a plus-10 rating through his past 13 games and continues to log substantial minutes (22:12 with 2:16 on the power play). Montreal also plays three teams already eliminated from the playoffs and the Lightning this week.

Nikita Zaitsev, D, TOR (Yahoo: 14%, ESPN: 26%, CBS: 44%): The rookie provides solid cross-category production and has been especially strong offensively with a goal and five assists through his past seven outings. With 35 points, 104 shots, 34 PIM, 169 hits and 127 blocked shot while averaging 22:17 of ice time (1:59 with the man advantage) for the campaign, Zaitsev has multiple avenues to rewarding, and especially with Toronto playing five times this week.

Kari Lehtonen, G, DAL (Yahoo: 39%, ESPN: 23%, CBS: 54%): The Stars have two particularly soft matchups this week with home games against Arizona and Colorado, so Lehtonen is a strong add. He's been playing well of late with a 4-1-1 record, .950 save percentage and 1.32 GAA and has also allowed two goals or fewer in five of those six starts with two shutouts.
