FantasyDraft NHL: Sunday Values

FantasyDraft NHL: Sunday Values

This article is part of our FantasyDraft NHL series.

While there are five games Sunday, two of them are in the afternoon, so they have been excised from the competition. That still leaves three games worth of players to choose from. Here are some options that will hopefully help you end the weekend on a good note.

GOALIE

Pittsburgh Penguins, PIT vs. PHI ($18,100): The goalie options aren't great, but the Penguins are clearly the best choice. Matt Murray will likely be in net, and he's been quite impressive this season (2.34 GAA, .925 save percentage). The Flyers are 13-21-4 on the road, and they will be on the second night of a back-to-back. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh is 29-4-4 at home. If those trends continue, Murray and the Penguins will pick up the win, and that's always big for goalies in daily fantasy.

CENTER

Nick Bonino, PIT vs. PHI ($9,300): Bonino is far from the biggest name on the Penguins, but he does have seven points, all goals, in his last nine games. Three of those have been on the power play, and he also tallied 25 shots on net in those contests. The Flyers have allowed 2.92 goals per game, and their goalies have a collective .897 save percentage. Philly will also be on the second night of a back-to-back, which is another point in Bonino's favor.

Henrik Sedin, VAN at WPG ($8,400): Sedin may be 36, but he still has a big role for the Canucks. He's started 38.3 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, second only to his brother, and he's played 3:07 per game on the power play. He's still the top center for Vancouver, and in his last 15 games he has 10 points. The Jets have allowed 3.19 goals per game, and their penalty kill is ranked 29th. Meanwhile, Sedin has 13 points with the extra man.

WING

Patric Hornqvist, PIT vs. PHI ($12,900): Hornqvist has excelled at putting pucks on net, as he's notched 211 shots on goal in 63 games. On top of that, he's averaging 3:06 minutes per game on the power play, and he's notched 14 points (including nine goals) with the extra man. In addition to allowing 2.92 goals per game, the Flyers have the 22nd-ranked penalty kill. Plus, Philadelphia has allowed 3.07 goals per game when they are playing on no days rest, which will be the case Sunday.

Nikolaj Ehlers, WPG vs. VAN ($11,400): The Canucks have allowed 2.92 goals and 31.9 shots on net per game. Additionally, Vancouver's likely starter, Ryan Miller, has a 3.29 GAA and .908 save percentage in his last 18 games. Ehlers has notched 22 goals and 58 points in 75 games, including 12 points with the extra man. In addition to all their other issues, the Canucks have the 27th-ranked penalty kill.

Daniel Sedin, VAN at WPG ($8,600): If one Sedin is good, two is better. As mentioned earlier, Sedin has started a higher percentage of his shifts in the offensive zone than any Canuck (38.5). He's also tallied 191 shots on goal in 74 games, and he has 13 power-play points. As also noted previously, the Jets have given up 3.19 goals per contest, and they have the 29th-ranked penalty kill.

DEFENSEMEN

Jacob Trouba, WPG vs. VAN ($10,100): Trouba has averaged 13.05 fantasy points per game, which is the third most of any defenseman in action Sunday. He's averaged 24:54 of ice time, and he's notched 136 shots on goal and 103 blocked shots in 53 games. Meanwhile, Vancouver has allowed 2.92 goals and 31.9 shots on net per game, and they will be on the second night of a back-to-back. Miller's recent struggles in goal also make Trouba more enticing.

Alexander Edler, VAN at WPG ($7,200): Edler has averaged 10.13 fantasy points per contest, which is quite a lot for a player at this price. In his last five games, he has three points and 12 shots on goal. Overall, he's registered 113 shots on net in 60 games, and he's added 123 blocked shots. It's been well established how porous the Jets have been defensively, and their goalies have a collective .898 save percentage this season.
