Yahoo DFS Hockey: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

Most of Sunday's NHL action is scheduled to take place early, so there are only two games left for the evening slate. All four teams will be capping busy weekends after playing Saturday, with the Bruins and Canucks finding new dance partners after squaring off in a Saturday matinee. With the playing field level in terms of freshness, these guys are in the best position to succeed – or get faded.

GOALIE

Tuukka Rask, BOS vs. MON ($32): All four projected starters in net are priced between $31 and $33, so it makes sense to just pick the two best options regardless of price. Rask's 26 wins and 2.32 GAA are tops among the available choices, plus he gets the benefit of playing at home after taking Saturday off in favor of backup Anton Khudobin. Rask has struggled a bit of late, but has had plenty of time to get things together after suiting up just once in the past week.

Goalie to Avoid

Anders Nilsson, BUF vs. VAN ($33): Nilsson's 2.67 GAA is the worst of the available group, and the Sabres offense in front of him has been the second worst of the four with just 2.44 goals per game. Despite all that, he's the most expensive goalie of the bunch at $33. His relative value is very poor in this case.

CENTER

Henrik Sedin, VAN at BUF ($12): Sedin continues to play on the first line and top power-play unit, but can be had for the minimum price. The biggest black mark on the veteran Swede's season has been his poor plus-minus rating, but that shouldn't be an issue against one of the few teams that hasn't outperformed his Canucks this season. Expect Sedin to translate his prominent role and scoring rate (0.62 points per game) into more production here, while leaving you maximum flexibility with the rest of your lineup.

Center to Avoid

Alex Galchenyuk, MON at BOS ($22): Galchenyuk is significantly overpriced at $22, considering he has just 13.0 fantasy points in six appearances since returning from a knee injury. His playing time is trending in the wrong direction after three straight appearances with fewer than 15 minutes, so getting back on track will be a tall order against Rask and the Bruins.

WING

Phillip Danault, MON at BOS ($15): Danault's first-line role continues to defy his price. He has skated over 18 minutes in two of the past three games, and has piled up five points in the past seven games. There aren't many cheap players with high scoring upside available in this limited slate, but Danault is one.

Daniel Sedin, VAN at BUF ($15): Daniel is tied with his twin brother Henrik for the team lead with 12 power-play points, which makes both strong plays here. Buffalo's 29th-ranked penalty kill has surrendered goals on 26.2 percent of opposing opportunities, meaning the veteran sniper will have a great opportunity to add to his five power-play tallies every time the Canucks have the extra man. The Sedins often both record points on the same play, so using both at once gives you the potential to reap massive rewards for just $27 total.

Wings to Avoid

Evan Rodrigues, BUF vs. VAN ($16): Rodrigues skated under 12 minutes per game in his earlier stint with the Sabres, and living up to his $16 price would be difficult in similar playing time considering the 23-year-old netted zero fantasy points in two appearances the first time around. Take a wait-and-see approach with Rodrigues until either his price drops or he starts producing.

Jannik Hansen, VAN at BUF ($14): Canucks forwards in general make for strong plays here due to Buffalo's poor penalty killing, but Hansen is a non-factor on the power play. He's got zero power-play points this season, which makes continuing his recent offensive success hard to maintain. Hansen is a bit underpriced based on his recent play, but this isn't the matchup to capitalize on that knowledge.

DEFENSE

Nathan Beaulieu, MON at BOS ($12): Beaulieu's 5.3 fantasy points per game are tops among blueliners priced below $16, which makes him a logical option regardless of whether you're stacking Canadiens players or just need one to make your lineup legal. His healthy contributions across the board give the 24-year-old Canadian a high floor, but he remains significantly cheaper than the high-profile members of Montreal's defense corps. Given the lack of alternatives, locking in the safety of Beaulieu for the minimum is smart.

Torey Krug, BOS vs. MON ($17): Krug's 35 points are tops among the available defensemen and seventh in the NHL. That offensive ability should come in handy against the struggling Carey Price, who has allowed eight combined goals to the league's two worst offenses in his last two appearances. Krug's potential is right up there with the most expensive options at his position, even though he can be had for $9 cheaper than Shea Weber.

Defensemen to Avoid

Jeff Petry, MON at BOS ($19): Petry has only topped 4.0 fantasy points once in the past seven games, and his slide is unlikely to end as a road underdog here. Beaulieu and Andrei Markov ($16) both provide similar value at a far cheaper price.

Greg Pateryn, MON at BOS ($13): Even at $1 above the minimum, Pateryn is overpriced. He has only one goal and four assists, and is averaging just 14:19 of ice time. Every other defenseman priced at least this high is a better option here.
