Latest Fantasy Rumors
Might be dealt
Laine, who hasn't played since Dec. 14 because of a collarbone injury, might be on the trade block, per Josh Wegman of theScore.com.
ANALYSIS
With a 15-23-9 record, the Blue Jackets are projected to be major sellers leading up to the trade deadline, and it appears Laine's among those who might be moved. The 25-year-old forward has six goals and nine points in 18 contests this season. When healthy, Laine is capable of serving in a top-six capacity, and at his best, he's a great goal-scorer. The forward is day-to-day and might return before the end of Columbus' current road trip -- the team still has games in Vancouver on Saturday, Seattle on Sunday and St. Louis on Tuesday.

Laine was hit by the injury bug in his first full season with Columbus in 2021-22, but he was highly effective when he was healthy. He scored a whopping 26 goals and averaged exactly a point-per-game pace through 56 contests. Laine has never posted more than 70 points in a single season because his assist totals are typically low, but he managed 30 helpers last year in limited time. The Blue Jackets' surprise addition of Johnny Gaudreau in free agency should help the team's power play immensely, giving Laine -- who signed a four-year extension with Columbus in July -- legitimate early-round fantasy upside heading into the 2022-23 campaign.
