Who's a believer in Kipnis? I just can't see him as a 4th/5th round pick and it seems like everybody loves him. Nearly every expert basically is penciling in 15 HR and 30 SBs for him as if it's a guarantee. He has 1 year in the majors, played 152 games last year, and it isn't as if he was a burner in the minors (19 SBs highest season total). Plus the Indians have some viable veteran infield utility options this year that could take some games from him. I just don't see much upside on last year's #s with a regression more likely. Just not worthy of a 45-65 overall selection.
Is anyone on my side or am I missing the boat on him?

I LIKE HIM FOR 15-20 HR AND 20-25 SB BUT NOT A 4TH OR 5TH ROUND PICK.

I'm with you mvbb17 - take a look at Kipnis's 2nd half numbers if you have any doubts. I think he disappoints anyone who takes him as a 4th/5th rd pick

2B #1 105 runs 19 hrs 72 rbi .256 avg 21 sb adp 41
#2 81 15 65 .290 20 38 #3 86 14 76 .257 31 51 2012 stats 2B #1 is Ian Kinsler #2 is Pedroia #3 is Kipnis Taking him in the 4th or 5th wouldnt be a disaster. But would be a greater value later. Edited by Jwalk100 - 19 Mar 2013 at 7:11pm |

I'm with you, don't trust Kipnis for that price. He didn't impress that much in the minors and I agree with the lack of projectability.

Kipnis got dropped in my league while I have Rickie Weeks and Martin Prado (my starting SS but can also play 2B). Should I pick up Kipnis, despite his terrible start so far? Other options I could pick up to help at 2B/SS are Neil Walker (2B), Zack Cozart (SS), Jhonny Peralta (SS), or Jedd Gyorko (2B/3B).

Seems like a shallow league if Kipnis and Walker are both available. I liked Kipnis over Weeks coming into the season, and I try not to change my opinions in the first few weeks of the season. I like Kipnis over Walker and Gyorko, but I have the latter two very close to each other. All are worth roster spots unless the league is quite shallow.
Post the rest of your roster and maybe there's someone else you could cut loose. |

I picked up Kipnis off the waiver wire, dropping Patrick Corbin who I had just picked up for the Yankees game anyway. This is my full lineup now.
Matt Wieters, Miguel Montero (C) Mike Napoli (C/1B) Paul Goldschmidt (1B) Rickie Weeks, Jason Kipnis (2B) Miguel Cabrera, Will Middlebrooks (3B) Martin Prado (2B/SS/3B/OF) Justin Upton, Angel Pagan, Alex Gordon, Jose Bautista (OF) Cliff Lee, James Shields, Yovanni Gallardo, Mike Minor, Jonathan Niese, Ryan Vogelsong (SP) Craig Kimbrel, JJ Putz (RP) |

I would rather have Corbin than Niese, but that's just my opinion.
