Hi Everyone,

Potential trade opinions needed here. I'm in a 10 team keeper league (PPR = .5pts).  The keeper rules are that we are allowed to keep anyone you drafted in the 4th round or later and have to draft them in that spot again next year. So, right now Ray Rice would definitely be my keeper for next year b/c I drafted him in the 8th round (great value).  I'm trying to work a deal with the last place team for Slaton or Turner, offering draft picks for next year but he inquired about Rice (cause he'd get to keep him) and said to ask for the moon.  Do you guys think it's worth trading Rice for Turner and Slaton??  I'm currently in 7th place and only 4 teams make the playoffs but I think I have a good enough team to make a run at it.

Here's the rest of the background/my roster so that it's easier to make an informed opinion:

- We start a QB, 3WRs, 2RBs, TE and a Flex RB/WR
- QBs: Schaub, Warner  RBs: Chris Johnson, Ray Rice, Jamaal Charles, Beanie Wells, McFadden, Mike Bell and Fred Jackson  WRs: Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson, Miles Austin, Malcom Floyd TE: Carlson
- I'd likely have to keep Wells, Schaub or maybe Miles Austin next year if I gave up Rice.

Thoughts?  Thanks!!
Dan

I like the deal. You are still playing for this year and getting both Turner & Slaton would allow you to start one of them at flex (which is a big upgrade over who you have). Yes, it would be nice to keep Ray Rice while only giving up an 8th round pick, but that doesn't guarantee a victory for next year by any means.

ray rice is the hottest running back next to a.p.- slaton has lost his job, and turner is good but he does not put up the numbers that rice does.

While I agree on Rice b/c he's proven to be matchup proof due to his involvement in the passing game, I still feel like making the deal would make my team better overall for the season.  I don't think Slaton has lost his job.  I think he's been fired a warning that he needs to stop fumbling. Had he not gotten benched, he'd likely have been the one shredding Buffalo this weekend. He's the most talented back they have.  Yes there's risk, but I think there's also upside.

With that said, b/c of the risk, I've worked getting Steve Smith (Car) in the potential deal.  It would essentially take a flop of draft picks next year (my 5th round for his 7th) to get the entire deal done.  Does that now make the deal worth it in anyone's mind?

The goal is to win, and this deal would give you a chance to this season. I would do it.

I feel like aside from AP and MJD, Ray Rice is the most lethal back in the NFL right now.  I'd be hesitant to get rid of him.  I am not saying that Slaton has lost his job but the whole Houston backfield is turning into a fantasy nightmare.

Personally I would wait to see how Jamaal Charles pans out before doing this.  Give him one game to see what he is going to offer.  Also, you are getting McFadden back soon and Beanie Wells seems to be getting stronger.  Sure, those are not overwhelming options but one of them should pan out before season's end.

I should have asked this before answering but is Ryan Moats still available in this league?  I'd probably do the deal if I could have Moats as a handcuff.

Moats has been picked up already. The deal as it stands, which has yet to be officially completed is:

I get:

Michael Turner
Steve Slaton
Steve Smith (Carolina)
His 6th Round 2010 pick

he gets:

Ray Rice
Fred Jackson
Tory Holt
My 4th Round 2010 pick

This is really tough b/c Rice has by far been my most consistent performer, but I do think it strengthens my team for the rest of this year. Prior to last week, Slaton was putting up Rice-like numbers (close enough at least) for the 4 weeks prior. If he had not gotten benched in that Buffalo game and did half of what Moats did, he'd be considered a top 10 back goin into this week and I'd likely not be able to do this deal. Things always change. Rice could level off now. On top of that, Steve Smith is showing signs of life. Not that I expect big things, but he should be a good fill-in Week 10 against Atlanta when I have Andre Johnson on a bye. I have little margin for error the rest of the season, so I'm really looking at everything and I've definitely taken the attitude that I'll worry about next year, next year.

I do appreciate everyones feedback though and welcome more until I officially decide to pull the trigger on it or not.

The more I think about it the more I think you have to make this trade.  I think Steve Smith will re-emerge as a good option down the stretch.  You can't hold a guy like that down for too long.  Rice is probably the most stable player in the deal but you're right, Slaton has not been so terrible this year.  Hehas been putting up fair numbers, the fumbles have been what everyone talks about.  And Turner has been good, it just seems like he has done most of his damage in a few games.

To put it bluntly, I have officially changed my mind.  Go for it.

Great...I made the trade late last night!   We still have a one day league review period where teams can veto, but I think it should pass through so long as everyone else understands the swapping of picks to make it a more balanced trade.

I really appreciate everyone who weighed in on this!
