December 16, 2016
Fournette (ankle) will not play in LSU's upcoming bowl game against Louisville, Ross Dellenger of The Advocate reports.
ANALYSIS
The star running back has played his last game in an LSU uniform as it was announced Friday that he would sit out of the Tigers' bowl game. A preseason ankle injury hindered Fournette for much of the season, causing him to miss four games at different points of the campaign. According to Dellenger, Fournette and head coach Ed Orgeron came to the mutual decision to have the talented back sit out of the bowl in order for him to be 100 percent healthy for the start of the draft process. Fournette will not require surgery on his ankle, but will spend the next month resting and rehabbing it. Look for Fournette to be full speed for the upcoming NFL Combine as he sets his sights on being the top running back selected in the 2017 Draft.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2016
2015
2014
Fournette (6-1, 230) arrived at LSU with unfairly high expectations, but through two seasons he's had no trouble meeting those expectations. Fournette's 1,034-yard, 10-TD freshman season in 2014 was just a warmup – he improved to 1,953 yards (6.5 YPC) and 22 TDs in 2015, adding 19 receptions for 253 yards and a touchdown. Last year may have represented the best-case scenario – he exceeded 200 yards in one third of his games in 2015 – but the floor is incredibly high, too. LSU is a favorite to win the national championship, and Fournette is the engine of the offense.
Last year's most-hyped recruit, Fournette did not disappoint. Indeed, all he did was fan the flames of hype by running for 1,034 yards (5.5 YPC) and 10 touchdowns on just 187 carries. LSU lost running backs Terrence Magee and Kenny Hilliard, who combined for 202 rushes, to graduation, paving the way for Fournette to push for 20 carries per game this season. At 6-1, 230, with big-play athleticism, Fournette could outproduce his draft day price with a huge workload. The only thing that might limit his fantasy value is LSU's passing game. Tigers quarterbacks were hideous last year, so Fournette might need to move the chains himself.
Other than Jadeveon Clowney, it's difficult to remember a prospect whose high school film was as comically lopsided as Fournette's. To say he bullied his competition would be a horrible understatement, as Fournette is already built like an NFL runner at around 6-foot-1, 225 pounds, and his speed and power combination was simply unfair at the high school level. Of course, the SEC will be a much bigger challenge for Fournette, but he should still remain one of the absolute best athletes on the field of any given game, even as a true freshman. Other than veteran backs Terrence Magee and Kenny Hilliard, it's not obvious who will compete for carries in the LSU offense now that Jeremy Hill and Alfred Blue are gone. Even in a crowded backfield, Fournette should make a fantasy impact as a true freshman.
