DraftKings MLB: Monday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

Pitcher

Alex Wood, LAD at PIT ($12,100): Wood features three pitches that have yielded positive results in 2017, including his fastball, a pitch the Pirates have notched the third lowest mark in the league against according to RAA. The left-hander owns a 12.6 percent swinging strike rate and should be able to keep the Pirates at bay with his heavy groundball tendencies, as they put the ball on the ground at a 46.6 percent clip.

Tyler Skaggs, LAA vs. TEX ($6,700): Skaggs draws a fantastic matchup on the main slate, as the Rangers sport a bottom-10 wOBA against lefties and on the road. They have also registered a -5.8 RAA against the curveball, a pitch Skaggs throws 32.6 percent of the time. It's worth noting that the 26-year-old has allowed 10 runs in 16 innings at home this season, but that small sample shouldn't bother us too much due to the marks in his favor.

Catcher

Yan Gomes, CLE vs. BOS ($3,300): Gomes should show up on the radar's of DFS players whenever a lefty is on the hill due to the .241 ISO and 40 percent hard contact rate he has tallied over 79 at-bats. Eduardo Rodriguez has allowed a 1.3 HR/9 rate and a 33 percent hard contact rate in 55 innings on the road this season.

First Base

Eric Thames, MIL at SF ($4,600): Opposition starter Chris Stratton notched 10 strikeouts through 6.2 scoreless innings in his last start but remains vulnerable to lefties, against whom he has tallied a 7:8 K/BB ratio over nine innings. Thames has shown tremendous power against right-handers this season, as evidenced by his .289 ISO in 298 at-bats.

Second Base

Brian Dozier, MIN at CWS ($4,500): Dozier has done his best work against lefties this season, logging a .273 ISO and a .429 wOBA over 99 at-bats. Carlos Rodon has given up six home runs in 23.1 innings at home while striking out just 19 percent of batters faced.

Third Base

Jake Lamb, ARI at NYM ($4,800):Jake Lamb has tallied a .292 ISO against righty pitchers this season to go along with a 13.5 RAA against the fastball. Meanwhile, Robert Gsellman has registered a -14.4 RAA with his heater while allowing a 37 percent hard contact rate to lefties.

Shortstop

Corey Seager, LAD at PIT ($4,700): Seager has hit the ball incredibly hard against both sides of the platoon this year, notching a 48.6 percent hard contact rate in 113 games. Gerrit Cole has allowed a 38 percent hard contact rate to lefties while having surrendered 15 homers over 67.1 innings.

Outfield

Trey Mancini, BAL vs. OAK ($3,900): Mancini has kept a reverse platoon split in 2017, tallying a .265 ISO over 264 at-bats. Chris Smith has been unable to find an answer for righties in 21.2 innings, having allowed eight home runs over that span.

Ben Gamel, SEA at ATL ($3,600): Gamel's power has steadily declined after a strong April, but he is worth a look for those trying to save a bit of money, as he has notched a 17.1 RAA against the fastball this season. Mike Foltynewicz has registered a -9.0 RAA with his fastball while allowing a .366 wOBA to lefties.

Nicky Delmonico, CWS vs. MIN ($3,800): Delmonico hasn't slowed down since his arrival to the big club earlier this month, logging four homers and four walks in 15 games against right-handed pitching. Tim Melville has had trouble with the free pass throughout his minor league career and has allowed 12 runs (11 earned) in nine innings pitched at the highest level, which could make him a stack target at the friendly confines of Guaranteed Rate Field.
