DraftKings MLB: Friday Picks

DraftKings MLB: Friday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

Pitcher

Carlos Martinez, STL at PIT ($10,600): Martinez has notched a 9.4 RAA with his fastball, while the Pirates rate as a bottom-5 team against the pitch. Pittsburgh holds just a .305 wOBA against right-handed pitching and hits the ball on the ground at a 45.6 percent clip, which should allow Martinez to use his heavy groundball rate to limit damage.

Zack Godley, ARI at MIN ($8,400): Godley's curveball has returned a 13.2 RAA this season, good for the third highest mark in the league among qualified pitchers. This should be a huge advantage for the 27-year-old against the Twins, a team that has registered a bottom-10 RAA against the bender.

Catcher

Tyler Flowers, ATL vs. CIN ($3,600): Flowers has begun to lose time to Kurt Suzuki behind the plate, but the numbers say that the 31-year-old should get the bulk of the at-bats against righties going forward, as he has tallied a .176 ISO and a 41.6 percent hard contact rate over 80 games. Meanwhile, Sal Romano has allowed a .607 slugging percentage against right-handed hitters in 22.1 innings.

First Base

Lucas Duda, TB vs. SEA ($3,700): Duda has hit the ball in the air at a 46 percent clip this season, which should allow him to get significant lift against Erasmo Ramirez, who has kept a groundball rate of 47 percent over 29 games (11 starts). The former Ray has been battered by lefties in 2017, having allowed a .523 slugging percentage and 45.6 percent hard contact rate.

Second Base

Rougned Odor, TEX vs. CWS ($4,000):James Shields is a primary stack target against teams with lefty power, as he has allowed a .672 slugging percentage and a 3.8 HR/9 rate against his opposite hand over 30.2 innings. Odor has notched a .234 ISO and a 39 percent hard contact rate against righty hurlers over 354 at-bats.

Third Base

Maikel Franco, PHI at SF ($2,400): Lefties have done the most damage to Matt Moore this season, but righties have had their share of success, tallying a .455 slugging percentage and a 34.6 percent hard contact rate. Franco isn't having the most productive year overall, but his .207 ISO against lefties makes him a sneaky play that can help us roster two high-priced pitchers.

Shortstop

Amed Rosario, NYM vs. MIA ($3,300): Rosario has swung the bat well against lefties early in his career at the big league level, having notched three hits (including a home run) over 11 at-bats. The 21-year-old has had an issue with strikeouts, but we shouldn't have to worry about that too much in the matchup with Justin Nicolino, as he has struck out just 13 right-handed batters over 19 innings.

Outfield

Aaron Judge, NYY at BOS ($5,200): Judge has begun to rebound from his post All-Star break slumber, having homered twice in his last four games. Drew Pomeranz could be the perfect pitcher to help build the momentum, as he relies heavily on his curveball, a pitch Judge has notched an 8.5 RAA against over 413 at-bats this season.

Joc Pederson, LAD at DET ($3,300): Pederson represents one of the few cost-effective options we can select to exploit Jordan Zimmermann, who has allowed a .559 slugging percentage against lefties this season. Pederson may not be the production threat he was in 2016, but he has still tallied a .224 ISO against right-handed pitching.

Marcell Ozuna, MIA at NYM ($4,400):Chris Flexen was able to turn in a decent outing against a tame Philadelphia Phillies lineup Sunday, but will likely have a tougher time lowering his 7.02 ERA against a hitter like Ozuna, who has notched a .267 ISO and a 42.5 percent hard contact rate against same-handed opposition.
