DraftKings MLB: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

Wednesday's All-Day MLB slate begins at 12:10 PM Eastern time and features all 30 teams. There's a number of subpar starters scheduled to take the mound, creating a number of stacking possibilities. Read on to see which offenses are primed for big days along with the players best-positioned to outplay their respective price tags.

PITCHER

Aaron Nola, PHI vs. HOU ($7,500): This pick comes with plenty of risk, but this matchup being against the Astros is the only reason Nola is available for remotely as cheap as $7,500. The burgeoning ace has averaged 28.4 fantasy points in his past six starts while recording at least that many in each of his four home appearances over that span. For comparison's sake, Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw's season average is 27.5 fantasy points per game. Nola has struck out 50 batters in that 42.1-inning stretch while posting a sparkling 1.70 ERA. With Houston missing star shortstop Carlos Correa (thumb), Nola's astronomical upside relative to his price is worth facing the league's top offense.

Jake Arrieta, CHC at CWS ($9,300): Arrieta didn't issue a single walk for the first time this season in his last start, and carrying that level of control over to this contest would have a devastating effect on a White Sox lineup that ranks 28th with a .711 OPS against right-handed pitching. The strikeout upside remains ever-present given Arrieta's 22.9 percent strikeout rate, and a win is likely in the cards with the Cubs sitting as minus-210 betting favorites. Arrieta could easily outscore any of the seven pitchers priced above him when taking opponent into consideration.

CATCHER

Bruce Maxwell, OAK at TOR ($2,600): Maxwell is the latest Oakland platoon project to gain fantasy relevance. The left-handed hitting catcher has been a non-factor against southpaws but sports a respectable .352 wOBA through 83 plate appearances against righties. Toronto starter Marco Estrada comes in with an underwhelming 5.52 ERA and 1.49 WHIP thanks to an inflated 3.79 BB/9. Maxwell's patient approach (15.5% BB%) is likely pay off in this one, while his non-everyday role makes him extremely affordable.

FIRST BASE

Mitch Moreland, BOS at SEA ($3,400): Mariners right-hander Andrew Moore has a combination of shortcomings ripe for exploitation by skilled hitters: a paltry 3.90 K/9 coupled with an astronomical 2.70 HR/9 allowed. Moreland's recent lack of power has lowered his price to $3,400, but the left-handed batting first baseman still hits in the heart of Boston's order and won't have a better opportunity to get back on track. Don't miss this ideal buy-low opportunity.

SECOND BASE

Ian Happ, CHC at CWS ($4,700): The switch-hitting Happ has been more dangerous from the left side, riding 22 extra-base hits in 161 at-bats to a .348 wOBA. His .522 slugging percentage against right-handers will likely rise even further with James Shields on the mound for the south side. The 35-year-old veteran has taken his struggles against left-handed hitters to new heights this season, surrendering a .442 wOBA in that split after finishing at no lower than .370 in either of the previous two.

THIRD BASE

Jake Lamb, ARI vs. ATL ($5,400): Arizona hitters should be licking their chops at the thought of this home matchup with Aaron Blair. The right-hander owns a 7.59 career ERA over 70 major league innings, and Chase Field's second-ranked 1.20 park factor should exacerbate his ineffectiveness. Lamb has found success against far trickier righties judging by his .420 wOBA in that split this season, and he's likely to come up to the plate with runners on base thanks to his spot in the heart of Arizona's batting order.

SHORTSTOP

Didi Gregorius, NYY vs. CIN ($4,500): Gregorius has been scorching hot over his past 10 games, going 17-for-37 with five home runs and a 4:3 K:BB. Judging by his 8.56 ERA and 2.05 WHIP, Reds starter Homer Bailey is unlikely to be the one to slow Gregorius down. Other factors working in the shortstop's favor are his .381 wOBA against righties and Yankee Stadium's fourth-ranked 1.15 park factor.

OUTFIELD

Mookie Betts, BOS at SEA ($5,000): Boston's home run leader is in great position to hit another one here. Moore has already surrendered five homers to go with a .347 wOBA to his first 75 right-handed batters faced while Betts has been nearly identical in his effectiveness against both sides and sports a .349 wOBA against fellow righties. Betts will also be a major threat to add to his 17 stolen bases and batting leadoff maximizes his plate appearances in this near-ideal matchup.

David Peralta, ARI vs. ATL ($5,200): Peralta's ceiling isn't as high as Lamb's, but Blair's .432 career wOBA allowed to the 159 left-handed hitters he's faced suggests there should be plenty of success to go around. The outfielder sports a .370 wOBA against righties that jumps to .397 at the hitter-friendly Chase Field, and should hit in the top third of the order for what promises to be a high-scoring affair.

Corey Dickerson, TB vs. BAL ($4,400): Orioles starter Ubaldo Jimenez has been awful against left-handed hitters, surrendering a .428 wOBA over a 198-batter sample. Dickerson has been far better than the average hitter from his side with a .363 wOBA against righties, putting him in good position to further add to Jimenez's struggles. His .378 mark against fellow lefties means Dickerson will also be dangerous in later innings once the underwhelming starter is lifted.
