DraftKings MLB: Friday Picks

DraftKings MLB: Friday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

Pitcher

Chris Archer, TB vs. BAL ($12,500): The Orioles got chewed up by the sliders of Corey Kluber and Carlos Carrasco earlier this week, and will now face an opponent who possesses the third most valuable slide-piece in the game this season (13.0 RAA). Archer has tallied a swinging strike rate of over 13 percent, while the Orioles have kept a 23 percent strikeout rate against right-handed pitching.

Seth Lugo, NYM at SF ($7,700): Lugo's stats look rather unremarkable through his first two starts this season, but he has allowed just four earned runs over 13.2 innings. The Giants hold the lowest wOBA in the league against right-handed pitchers, and have kept a bottom-5 RAA against the curveball, a pitch Lugo throws 20 percent of the time.

Catcher

Alex Avila, DET at SD ($3,600): Avila's price remains comfortably under $4,000 despite a 50-game stretch that has seen him tally a .272 ISO and an 11.3 RAA against the fastball. Dinelson Lamet has been able to use the strikeout to stay competitive, but has been absolutely destroyed by lefties in 2017, allowing a .759 slugging percentage over 13 innings.

First Base

Tommy Joseph, PHI at ARI ($3,400):Patrick Corbin turns into a below average pitcher when facing his opposite hand, as evidenced by his 16 percent strikeout rate and .529 slugging percentage allowed over 60 innings. Joseph will certainly benefit from the reduced strikeouts, which should allow him to put his .277 ISO against southpaws to good use.

Second Base

Jose Ramirez, CLE vs. MIN ($5,100): An incredible stretch has launched Ramirez's price into the stratosphere, but he may still be worth the squeeze, as he has kept a 33 percent hard contact rate against lefties while notching a 13.0 RAA against the fastball. Meanwhile, Adalberto Mejia has logged a -4.0 RAA with his fastball to go along with a 37 percent hard contact rate against righties in 34.1 innings.

Third Base

Joey Gallo, TEX at NYY ($3,600): It may be time for fantasy players to stop hoping for the return of an effective Masahiro Tanaka, as he has logged a -12.0 RAA against the fastball to compliment his 6.34 ERA over 14 starts. Gallo should be able to use Tanaka's heavy ground-ball rate against him. The lefty slugger will take a 61 percent flyball rate into matchup.

Shortstop

Carlos Correa, HOU at SEA ($4,700):Felix Hernandez threw the ball well in the minor leagues while recovering from a shoulder injury, but right-handed hitters may still have fond memories of the five homers he surrendered in 14.1 innings prior to being sent to the disabled list. Correa has found his power stroke against righties in 2017, notching a .238 ISO over .202 at-bats.

Outfield

Corey Dickerson, TB vs. BAL ($4,700):Ubaldo Jimenez performed well in a spot start against the Cardinals last week, which has allowed us to take a shot at exploiting him with a much more powerful offense. There doesn't appear to be any reason to believe Jimenez isn't the same pitcher who has allowed a .635 slugging percentage to left-handed hitters. This is great news for Dickerson, who has tallied a .273 ISO against righties in 194 at-bats. It is also worth noting that Dickerson has maintained a 9.6 RAA against the fastball, while Jimenez's heater has clocked in at more than nine runs below average.

Avisail Garcia, CWS vs. OAK ($3,700): It's easy to be impressed by the raw stuff of Jharel Cotton, but the 25-year-old has allowed a .510 slugging percentage and a 41 percent hard contact rate against right-handed hitters over 37.1 innings. Garcia has emerged out of nowhere to become one of Chicago's most productive hitters. He will take a 9.0 RAA and a .215 ISO against righties into the matchup against Cotton.

David Peralta, ARI vs. PHI ($4,900): One-inning pitchers generally have strong strikeout-to-walk ratios, but that hasn't been the case for Mark Leiter Jr., who has walked more hitters (14) than he has struck out (12) over 19 innings out of the bullpen. Peralta has notched a 7.7 RAA against the fastball and a .371 wOBA against righties this year.
