Yahoo DFS Baseball: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

PITCHER

Ervin Santana, MIN vs. CWS ($46): I'm taking a risk with Santana, hoping his streak continues of not having back-to-back bad starts. He only made it five innings last time out, giving up five runs and nine hits against the Mariners. Against the White Sox back in April, he won both starts, going a combined 15 innings and only allowing three hits. Chicago has a poor .302 wOBA and 22.8 K% against righties, so this lines up for another said outing for Santana.

Gio Gonzalez, WAS at MIA ($37): This isn't a great matchup, but with a cheaper price and Gonzalez's recent success, that could be enough. He's reached at least 19 fantasy points in his last five outings and didn't allow a run while striking out seven the first time he saw the Marlins back in early April. The Marlins don't have as good of numbers at home this season with a .323 wOBA and high 22.6 K% against lefties.

CATCHER

Welington Castillo, BAL vs. CLE ($11): For a cheap catcher, this right-righty matchup makes sense from both ends. Castillo has better all-around numbers against righties with a .342 wOBA, .212 ISO and K% (22.7) that's nearly seven points lower. Josh Tomlin has given up at least three runs in his last three starts and has a .369 wOBA allowed against righties.

FIRST BASE

Paul Goldschmidt, ARI at COL ($28): Even in another righty-righty matchup, Goldschmidt can't be passed up at Coors Field. He has 17 hits in his last 10 games and an outlandish .457 wOBA and .314 ISO against righties. German Marquez is putting together a solid campaign, but still has a 4.71 xFIP against righties and already gave up five runs with only three Ks the last time he saw the D-Backs in Colorado.

SECOND BASE

Daniel Descalso, ARI at COL ($12): In the opposing dugout (and much cheaper), Descalso has a .341 wOBA and .200 ISO against righties. Marquez has allowed a .330 wOBA against lefties and that number jumps to .351 in home games, albeit in only 9.1 innings.

THIRD BASE

Travis Shaw, MIL vs. PIT ($20): I could be lazy and suggest Jake Lamb, but I'll mix it up and go with a similarly great matchup. Shaw has a .384 wOBA and .241 ISO against righties with those numbers slightly better at home at .407 and .245. On the mound, Chad Kuhl has had issues against lefties allowing a .423 wOBA and 5.57 xFIP, giving up five homers in 27 IP. He also hasn't made it past five innings in his last 10 outings.

SHORTSTOP

Jose Iglesias, DET at SEA ($13): Iglesias doesn't have power, but he continues to get on base and that's good enough for a cheap shortstop. He has a solid .347 wOBA against lefties with a K% that's down to 3.9 in June. Ariel Miranda has been hard to predict and now gets one of the better teams in the league against lefties. To go with that, Miranda has a 5.59 xFIP against righties.

OUTFIELD

Bradley Zimmer, CLE at BAL ($16): I couldn't go an entire article without making a recommendation for someone against Chris Tillman. The righty hurler is having issues, giving up 18 hits and 14 runs in his last two starts. He's struggled against both sides of the plate, but is worse against lefties with a .451 wOBA allowed and 6.57 xFIP. As for Zimmer, a lot of his success is against righties with a .404 wOBA and .281 ISO.

Brett Gardner, NYY vs. LAA ($18): When these teams met a week ago, Parker Bridwell came on in relief duty, allowing seven hits but no runs in 3.2 innings. Now starting, I'm not sure it will work out as well for him. Gardner is a logical place to start due to his .371 wOBA and .228 ISO against righties.

Ben Gamel, SEA vs. DET ($14): Until he stops producing, there's no reason not to use Gamel at a small price. He has hit safely in 21 of his last 22 games with a .388 wOBA against righties. Jordan Zimmerman has looked better in recent starts, but he gave up 11 hits and five runs the last time he saw the Mariners in late April. Plus, his .385 wOBA allowed against lefties is still a weakness.
