FantasyDraft MLB: Saturday Values

This article is part of our FantasyDraft MLB series.

PITCHER

Stephen Strasburg, WAS vs. SD ($23,400): After getting mowed down by Max Schrezer on Friday, the Padres now sport a 24.9 percent strikeout rate and .295 wOBA versus right-handed pitching, and they strike out at an NL-worst 27.9 percent clip versus righties on the road. Strasburg brings plenty of upside, having eclipsed 30 fantasy points twice and 20 in three other starts this season. Although he'd been a bit vulnerable earlier, he racked up 11 strikeouts in his most recent start and scored 35.65 fantasy points against the Braves.

Marco Estrada, TOR vs. TEX ($18,300): Estrada makes for a nice pivot for those who can't afford both Strasburg and Zack Greinke ($23,200). Estrada racked up 12 strikeouts in his most recent start against the Orioles, leading to 39.65 fantasy points, and he's also scored between 23.30 and 26.95 in five other appearances this season. The Rangers have also compiled 23.0 percent strikeout rate when facing right-handed pitching on the road.

INFIELD

Joey Votto, CIN at PHI ($9,900): Phillies starter Jerad Eickhoff has given up a .363 wOBA (including .381 at home) to left-handed hitters, along with a 4.85 xFIP and 31.9 percent hard contact rate. Votto has been outstanding in May, posting a .450 wOBA and .244 ISO. He's also pounded righties as usual, tallying a .405 wOBA, 25.7 percent line drive rate and 36.3 percent hard contact rate versus that handedness. The Phillies bullpen has also been generous to left-handed hitters, allowing a 4.55 ERA and .323 wOBA this month, along with 11 homers to that handedness overall this season.

Justin Bour, MIA vs. LAA ($8,800): Bour was at it again Friday, smacking a three-run home run and raising his wOBA at Marlins Park to .435. He's also battered righties for a .369 wOBA (including .411 at home) and 47.4 percent hard contact rate, with an even better 52.5 percent figure at home. He's heated up this month, compiling a .482 wOBA and hitting nine of his 13 homers on the season. Meanwhile, Angels starter JC Ramirez has given up a .387 wOBA to lefty bats on the road, along with a 38.2 percent hard contact rate. The Angels' bullpen has also been increasingly vulnerable to left-handed hitters, having allowed 10 homers to that handedness in May alone.

Eric Hosmer, KC at CLE ($7,200): Hosmer has a .400 batting average with five doubles, three homers and eight RBI over 33 career plate appearances against Indians starter Danny Salazar, who's also given up a .425 wOBA to left-handed hitters, including .448 at home. He's fallen apart in May, posting a 7.50 ERA while allowing a .307 batting average, .444 wOBA and 39.6 percent hard contact rate. Hosmer boasts a .353 wOBA against right-handed pitching this season, and a .422 wOBA in 103 plate appearances this month.

OUTFIELD

Mike Trout, LAA at MIA ($10,800): Trout comes in with a .487 wOBA and 45.3 percent hard contact rate versus righties this season. Meanwhile, Marlins starter Vance Worley has given up a .329 wOBA to right-handed hitters in his career, and the Marlins bullpen has generated a 5.70 ERA against right-handed hitters this month while yielding 12 homers on the season to that handedness.

Nelson Cruz, SEA at BOS ($9,300): Cruz against a lefty is one of DFS' "set it and forget it" scenarios, and such is the case again Saturday. The Red Sox will send out Brian Johnson, who was just recalled to make Saturday's start and who gave up four earned runs in five innings in his one previous start this season. Cruz has a .390 wOBA and 33.3 percent hard contact rate versus southpaws, including a 34.4 percent hard contact rate overall in May.

Aaron Altherr, PHI vs. CIN ($8,000): The Reds-Phillies game sports one of the higher projected totals on the afternoon slate partly because of Reds starter Bronson Arroyo, who's given up a .385 wOBA and seven homers to right-handed hitters, including .432 in his last four starts. He's also yielded a 37.5 percent hard contact rate to that handedness, while Altherr has blasted righties for a .560 wOBA and 57.1 percent hard contact rate at home.

UTILITY

Yasmany Tomas, ARI at MIL ($8,100): Tomas has two homers against Brewers starter Chase Anderson in just five career plate appearances, and he catches the right-hander at a potentially good time. Anderson has posted a 7.71 ERA while allowing a .473 wOBA and four homers over his last 18.2 innings (four starts). He's yielded a 24.4 percent line drive rate and 41.2 percent hard contact rate to that handedness at Miller Park as well, while Tomas has a .388 wOBA and 44.6 percent hard contact rate versus right-handed pitching. The Brewers bullpen has also been giving to righty bats, generating a 4.56 ERA and allowing 13 homers.

Corey Dickerson, TB at MIN ($8,800): Dickerson takes aim at spot starter Adalberto Mejia, and he boasts a .415 wOBA against right-handed pitching, including .457 on the road. He's also made hard contact at a 45.2 percent rate away from Tropicana Field and sports a .402 wOBA overall in 110 plate appearances during May. Meanwhile, there hasn't been a more vulnerable bullpen to lefty hitters than the Twins' this month, as they've given up a majors-worst .444 wOBA and are tied with the Padres for most homers surrendered to that handedness during the month (eight).
