ANALYSIS
Moskos was forced to pitch in an independent league in 2015 after being released by the Dodgers in 2014 and having Tommy John surgery soon thereafter. The left-hander pitched well in the majors back in 2011 with the Pirates, but hasn't pitched well in three seasons of Triple-A since, so it'll be tough to crack the Padres bullpen.

Perhaps the biggest compliment one can give Moskos is that he throws left-handed. His major league debut actually wasn't too bad in 2011. He registered a 2.96 ERA in 31 games and 24.1 frames. His 11:9 K:BB ratio reflected his minor league struggles, however. The 26-year-old southpaw throws pretty hard (92.1 mph average fastball) but lacks an effective breaking ball. He'll fight for a spot in Pittsburgh's bullpen during training camp but will likely shuttle back and forth to Triple-A all season long. The Pirates have tried the 2007 No. 4 overall pick as a starter, but it looks like the best chance he has of sticking in the big leagues is as a LOOGY.
Night and day aptly describes the differences between Moskos' performance at Double-A and Triple-A in 2010. The Pirates used Moskos as a closer, where he's pitched consistently pitched with higher velocity than as a starter. He began the season on fire with Altoona, earning a midseason promotion to Indianapolis. At Triple-A, the lefty gave up 20 earned runs in 17.1 innings and served up a 2.690 WHIP. Sent back to Double-A before he lost all of his confidence, Moskos rebounded and finished with a 1.52 ERA, 1.022 WHIP and 21 saves. Most folks are afraid to go to the dentist's office, but for Moskos, the dental chair was located in Indianapolis last year. The Bucs protected him on their 40-man roster over the winter, meaning that he still fits into the organization's plans.
Moskos was described as the fifth-best pitcher available in the draft after the Pirates took him fourth overall last summer. Pittsburgh views him as a reliever, although he also has a history of starting. After signing with the Bucs, Moskos registered a 3.45 ERA in 15.2 minor league innings in rookie and short-season Low-A ball. The 21-year-old lefty throws his fastball in the low 90's. The Pirates will likely try to rush him through their minor league system to prove his drafting wasn't a mistake, but he'll probably need considerably more time in the minors. Either way, he probably won't have much fantasy relevance for at least a couple of seasons.
