Headed to minors camp
OFDetroit Tigers
March 22, 2018
The Tigers reassigned Huffman to their minor-league camp Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Huffman resurfaced in the big leagues for the first time in seven years in 2017, logging 15 plate appearances across 12 games with the Cardinals. The 32-year-old didn't make enough of an impression during his cup of coffee with St. Louis to attract anything more than a minor-league pact from the Tigers over the winter, which made it unlikely from the start of spring training that he would break camp with the big club. He'll likely serve as outfield depth at Triple-A Toledo for the bulk of the 2018 campaign and will need several injuries to hit the Tigers outfield before he receives another look in the big leagues.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2009
2008
After Huffman hit 22 homers combined at High-A and Double-A in 2007, a bit more than the nine he hit in 2008 at Double-A San Antonio was expected, though he did slug 30 doubles. Huffman has excellent plate patience so it is still quite possible that the power will come later. Known as a hard-worker, Huffman has made strides defensively, and could see some time in left field this season, but is likely ticketed for Triple-A Portland to start the year.
Huffman is a marginal prospect that projects as a major league utilityman. He should spend 2008 in Double-A. The 22-year-old hit for power (15 homers and 76 RBI) as well as average (.307 with a .402 on-base percentage) in 316 at-bats for High-A Lake Elsinore last year. Those numbers came in a very hitter-friendly league, so look for Huffman's on-base percentage to be his best attribute moving forward.
