Rest-of-Season Projections
Let go by Cincinnati
The Reds released Kahaloa on Monday, Zach Buchanan of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Kahaloa completed his 50-game suspension for a second positive drug test in July, but he never reported to any of the Reds' minor-league affiliates with the organization wanting him to put his personal issues ahead of his baseball career. It appears Kahaloa's return to the mound will now take a little more time, as the Reds decided to cut bait with the 2015 fifth-round pick despite his promising performance with rookie-level Billings a season ago. Several organizations should still have interest in bringing the 19-year-old aboard, but he'll first need to prove that he's on the straight and narrow.

2017 Fantasy Outlook
Selected in the fifth round of the 2015 draft, Kahaloa has spent his first two seasons pitching for the Reds' rookie-level affiliates. The young righty features a low-to-mid-90s fastball, solid changeup and improving slider. In his 2016 season with rookie-level Billings, Kahaloa posted a 2.82 ERA (4.63 FIP) and a 1.14 WHIP over 44.2 innings with the team's starting rotation. He struck out 22.3 percent of batters (down from 32.3 percent in 2015) and had a walk rate of roughly seven percent. The Reds plan to allow Kahaloa to progress slowly through the minors, so it could be some time before we see him in the higher levels of their system. He's an interesting player to monitor as he could end up profiling as a No. 3 or No. 4 starter down the road. At just 19 years old, he is one of the youngest players from his draft class, yet has already shown an advanced feel for pitching and should develop into a pretty polished arm in time.
